Interesting. I learned a lot about closed backs after reading this article and then checking listener’s squiglink. See, I own a Takstar Pro 82 and the same attributes appear there: a scoop around 200-400Hz, preceded by a boost; a valley around 5kHz; and a treble peak somewhere around 10-11kHz.
I hope to see an 82 graphed on 5128 someday, it would be specially interesting due to its mechanical bass switches.

I like they way my 598Cs sound with movies and games, but they like literally disintegrated. Parts of the cups, the headband, and the pads had this felt-like material that you can literally rub off. If you don’t, then this material will come off of its own accord, pepering your hair and clothes with this black sticky stuff. Yucky

I’ve been pretty rough on mine so the headband is loose (I would sleep with them on), so I can’t speak for normal wear. However it’s funny though because the pads went from what you described black stuff rubbing off, but now it’s all rubbed off, so the pads look new now (still comfortable surprisingly). Great headphones though, I added a slight EQ and they work pretty well for some decent mixes (probably not good enough for pro work though).

Don’t get much love do they. I bought them on a whim refurbished directly from Sennheiser for cheap and prefer them over the K361s. Just have to be careful not to turn them up too loud. Great even without eq. Soundstage and image as well as any 5xx series even the 58x. Really shine for spoken voice which doesn’t get enough press here or anywhere. Honestly, I’m selling my DCA Closed Xs. I listen to as much podcasts as music and the DCAs are not as good for that purpose. I have Hifiman Arya Stealths for music.

This was a really helpful article, thank you.
I actually got a pair of 569‘s myself recently because of it and am pleasantly surprised by its sonic performance.
It feels less muffled and more dynamic than I remember the DT 700‘s.
My only real complaint is the comfort due to the notch inside the ear cup. I think the pads of the HD 620‘s might help fix that.
Do you think you could measure a pair of 569‘s with HD 620 S pads? Sennheiser has them listed as compatible with the 569 and I‘d love to know how they would affect the sound.
I‘d appreciate that very much

Honestly kind of wild I didn’t try this sooner. I’ll give it a try later tonight and report back. Good idea!

Very cool change. It’s definitely a bit too bass forward for me but I actually prefer the midrange and treble presentation here. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks so much for trying it out, that‘s awesome.
Looks surprisingly good for an alternate pad
