So I have decided that I should get some bone conduction headphones. I know this isn’t hifi at all however it is a utilitarian response to a need that I have. I enjoy falling asleep to ASMR and figured this would be a good product for me to use. I don’t care about fidelity while I’m drifting off to sleep. I have been using some cheap IEM’s that fit within my ear so they don’t press on anything from the pillow. But recently one of the wires gave up the ghost so I’ve been listening to 528hz or what ever you want to call it on youtube music over my google home. But I’m starting to miss ASMR.
So what’s the cheapest bone conducting headphone that won’t burn out immediately. All I care about is acceptable sound and reliability.
Cheapest? Dunno. My wife cannot comfortably wear any in-ear so years ago I bought her some Shokz. They were not cheap, but the sound quality was surprisingly decent and it wasn’t even meant for music. It was a phone conversation focused model with a little boom mic.
What she usually uses now when resting in bed is a cheap pair of Bluetooth headphones in a headband. It’s specifically designed for sleeping. Reportedly very comfortable and good enough to watch YouTube or fall asleep to rain noise. I’ll ask her to pull up her Amazon order history and get the model when I see her again in a bit.
I tried one of those headband headphones from Amazon and found the sound atrocious, the other deal-killer was that they must have been made for someone with a tiny head. I felt like my (large) head was in a vise which would eventually crush it.
Try the Shokz. I got them as a gift for someone who likes them. Personally, I don’t think the sound is there. But they might work for what you’d want them to do.
