What exactly do you mean by “technically better”? Terms like “natural” and “musical” are very difficult to define and vary among individuals. “Technicals” would seem to imply things like actual frequency extension/response, background noise/resolution of detail, imaging/soundstaging, etc, but is that what you mean?
Sorry I am not very good with words. And I should not have said I am disappointed with the TT2 as I still enjoy it.
The first thing that stands out going from the TT2 to the Oor is spacial presentation.
The Oor has bigger soundstage, everything sounds much further away and better layered.
Also, there much more space between everything and this gives the sense of better sound separation.
In comparison the TT2 sound in your head. Like listening to HD600 or more like a wall of sound in front of you. This makes everything sound more cluttered in comparison.
This in your face can give the impression of more detail, but I would disagree with the TT2 having more detail as I would say I get more resolution and texture from the Oor but not by much and it’s hard to tell for me.
The DAC portion of the TT2 is a difference story I cannot seem to hear much difference between DAC’s I have. More listening needs to be done but maybe my ears are not good enough to notice any noticeable difference.
Hope this helps make sense what I meant it sounding more technical.
But I get why some people more prefer the in-your-face sound as sometimes I am more in the mood to this. It’s just a different presentation not sure if there’s a best or worse or a more or less correct.
Out of curiosity what filters were you listening on as well as did you use any of the crossfeed features of the TT2 while listening via headphones?
Filter 1 and no cross feed for comparison.
Tried different filters but couldn’t notice any difference from my ears.
Cross feed is cool and do enjoy it sometimes and makes some songs sound better, but I think it impacts the soundstage in a negative way for most of the stuff I listen to.
Left and right seems poor and specially sounds that should be coming from behind the listener.
Makes everything sound like its more centred and coming from Infront of you that sometimes it may or may not benefit the recording.
What are your thoughts of the TT2 vs other amps??
Do you enjoy cross feed??
I think the TT2 is a great amp/dac. Vs. other amps hard to say as I haven’t compared it to the amps you are talking about. I think the DAC leans toward the analytical side of things and tends to pair best with tubes for me.
In my experience, cross feed on any device is best suited for older recordings and/or recordings with extreme stereo separation that is impossible to correct absent any channel bleed left to right. This can be bad enough on a speaker system, but on a headphone the separation left to right in complete isolation is unnatural. Most modern recordings do not benefit from cross feed, or can be in fact ruined. One example would be recordings of string quartets where the 1st violin is far to the left, and the cello is far to the right. This is normally how they are seated on stage, but many recordings exaggerate this effect and there is no homogeneity to the over all sound. This is not precise staging, but a symptom of headphone listening to recordings that have not fed any cross feed into the recordings, or too little. Narrowing the angle of cross feed can help correct this, although as often as not, other aspects can also be impacted for the negative.
In short, if you are experimenting with cross feed on recordings that already are well recorded in this respect, you will not necessarily hear an improvement.
Hello. I be interested in your Chord. Is it still available?
I don’t want to speak for Torq but I’m pretty sure this has been sold. That post was from 2019.
