Hello all! I’ve been hanging around the site more often and I’ve realized that a TON of people need help with EQing their headphones and IEMs.

I thought it’d be great if we had some sort of centralized repository of EQ profiles either from @Resolve or myself, as well as a place for people to request EQ profiles of their IEMs/headphones for me to help with.

First, there are some things readers should know about how I’m going to approach making EQs for other people, as it will be rather different than the pre-made EQs done by people like [Oratory1990](https://www.reddit.com/r/oratory1990/wiki/index/list_of_presets/) or [Jaakko Pasanen](https://github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq)’s AutoEQ databases:

1. I won’t be EQing headphones or IEMs directly to any of Harman’s targets unless explicitly requested. Using Harman means I can only use results from one type of measurement fixture—specifically legitimate 711 couplers for IEMs, and GRAS 45CA/43AG rigs for headphones—and IMO better results can be had when incorporating data from other measurement fixtures.

2. I will, as mentioned, be incorporating measurements from as many “heads” (measurement fixtures) as possible. For this to work, **Diffuse Field calibration for all measurements is necessary**. This means the measurements might look different than the raw measurements many are used to in our hobby. If you’d like an explanation for why this is necessary **and** better, check out [my article about Diffuse Field](https://headphones.com/blogs/features/diffuse-field).

3. The default “target” I will be aiming for will be something akin to Harman’s OE 2018 target. In this case, the filter values alone that were applied to Harman’s In-Room Flat that led to Harman OE 2018 will be the “target” all of the Diffuse Field calibrated measurements are steered towards. However, I won’t be crazy about matching exactly to the target from top to bottom.

4. I will be utilizing the Preference Bounds we use for our measurements at [Headphones.com](http://Headphones.com) to help make sure I’m steering towards a likely improvement, and I will also be generally using very wide Q values, especially above 4000 Hz. Above this frequency is a high-uncertainty area wherein humans are bound to vary extremely in terms of on-head frequency response, so a gentle touch in this region is necessary.

As a quick example of what I mean, let me show you what the process and output would be like with the Sennheiser HD 800S.

First, I’d begin by gathering as many measurements as I can for each head and averaging them for each head. In this case, Oratory1990 has measured a bunch of units on the GRAS system he uses (with KB50xx pinnae) so that one’s easy, but for the rest I’d be making a single “average” per head, to consolidate unit variation. Example shown below.

 ![graph (8)](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex016/uploads/headphones/original/3X/9/a/9a39c181b174b8fbf33dd8f3b2dae22629aedc94.png)

After that, I will Diffuse Field calibrate all of the measurements and average them, leading to a result that looks something like the below measurement in red.

 ![Screenshot 2024-06-12 at 5.21.53 PM](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex016/uploads/headphones/original/3X/2/f/2f6798dbbcf67e30669f379b4576d89b8533d43b.jpeg)

Finally, I’ll go ahead and begin EQing, using the Harman filters as a rough guideline and mostly shooting to get the totality of the response more “within the bounds”. These are the results I’m going to show in every post, with all of the prior information left out in the interest of brevity. Results shown below in green.

 ![graph (9)](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex016/uploads/headphones/original/3X/d/6/d6522fcb5e5f15dd4ba2987edd34938be8892427.png)

I will state my confidence in the provided EQ preset, which indicates how much I think you should trust the measurement:

Confidence: MEDIUM-HIGH

And then I will post the EQ filters that I used to get the above result, as well as prescribing where the listener should adjust to tilt the response to their preference:

Preamp: -8.2 dB
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 20 Hz Gain 1.8 dB Q 1.400
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 71 Hz Gain 1.0 dB Q 1.400
Filter 3: ON LSC Fc 82 Hz Gain 6.6 dB Q 0.600
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 190 Hz Gain -2.1 dB Q 0.700
Filter 5: ON HSC Fc 1075 Hz Gain 3.2 dB Q 0.600
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 1550 Hz Gain 0.6 dB Q 2.700
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 3950 Hz Gain -2.0 dB Q 4.000
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 4900 Hz Gain 2.7 dB Q 2.000
Filter 9: ON HSC Fc 6000 Hz Gain -4.8 dB Q 0.700
Filter 10: ON PK Fc 6250 Hz Gain -6.0 dB Q 2.000

Adjust band 3 for overall bass level
Adjust band 9 for overall treble level

And that’s it! So if any of you have any requests for EQ of any headphone or IEM out there that has a measurement, feel free to drop a request in here. Otherwise, I’ll be making a point to post in here at least once a day until I’ve run out of headphones and IEMs to generate profiles for.

Happy tweaking!

I have gotten so used to (and reliant upon) equalisation presets. Would you also recommend some easy/lazy computer route to perhaps simply copy and paste your text-based provided filters into? I use Linux, and Windows for listening rigs but have also used MacOS an Android in the past. Thanks in advance for an easy copy and paste solution that you or anyone else might suggest.

Thanks for offering to do this for the community! Kudos!
Unlike many others here, I have only two headphones, both of which I use daily: open back (Arya Stealth) for serious listening pleasure, and closed back (DCA Aeon X) for times when household noises like fans or a/c intrude. Could I be greedy and ask for both? If you want to limit to only one (fully understandable), how about the DCA?
Thanks! 🏆 🏅 👍

Focal Clear with the included EQ sound nice, close to the Oratory1990 profile, but I would say less aggressive.
Curious to know the EQ profile for the LCD-X and LCD-XC 2021.
Thanks!

I actually think if you copy and paste the EQ profile I’ve pasted (Starting with the “Preamp” and ending with the last band) into a .txt file, you should just be able to drag-n-drop the text file onto the Peace GUI window with EQAPO and it should load.

Can also load the .txt file with SoundSource’s “Headphone EQ” plugin very easily, and this is what I do for EQ on my Mac.

For Linux, I’m not familiar with the system. A friend has told me that If using [**PipeWire**](https://www.pipewire.org/), use [**EasyEffects**](https://github.com/wwmm/easyeffects), preferably installed via your package manager. If using [**PulseAudio**](https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/), use [**PulseEffects**](https://github.com/wwmm/easyeffects), though it is recommended to use PipeWire and EasyEffects instead.

Hope this helped!

Very kind offer, thanks.

I have the seemingly ubiquitous Senn/Drop HD6XX. Probably a lot of people would be interested in that.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Verum One Mk2. I believe there is measurement data for it but it might be “preliminary” so no worries if that one doesn’t make sense.

Another note with this one:

Truthear Hexa has a rather noticeable length mode resonance in my ear around 7.8 kHz (which is damped by the B&K 5128, so hard to see). It is possible said resonance is present in your ear too, but likely at a different frequency.

I left a 7.8 kHz band in the EQ preset with no gain parameter added, its recommended you use a site like [Szynalski](https://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/) or the tone generator in the Equalizer panel on [my own site](https://listener800.github.io/5128.html?share=Custom_Tilt,Hexa&bass=0&tilt=-0.6&treble=0&ear=0) (shown in the picture below) to find out exactly where this resonance is and curtail it. Should be somewhere between 5-9 kHz.

Adjust band 3 for overall bass
Adjust band 10 for overall treble

Please be advised that pad condition and positioning matters greatly for this headphone, which is why I didn’t touch any of the treble. Feel free to add an additional peak filter somewhere in the 6-12 kHz area if you find its too dark or too bright.

THANK YOU! Today is shaping up to be a completely free day (shhhh, don’t tell anyone), so I will be trying these out post haste!

DCA Aeon 2 Noire has been especially problematic to EQ well for me. It just never seems to sound right.

I can always use another Audeze LCD-5 preset to try. 🕶

Thanks for your efforts! Any chance this will turn into a searchable web site instead of a forum thread?

A friend has told me that If using [**PipeWire**](https://www.pipewire.org/), use [**EasyEffects**](https://github.com/wwmm/easyeffects), preferably installed via your package manager. If using [**PulseAudio**](https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/), use [**PulseEffects**](https://github.com/wwmm/easyeffects), though it is recommended to use PipeWire and EasyEffects instead.

Hey listen\_r, thank you so much for all of the valuable information! I shall try all three operating systems with your equalisation presets.
.
I was already able to get Peace on Windows to work with your settings. The drag and drop .txt file did not work for me on the Peace interface. However, just in case anyone else will be trying the Peace route, I’ll share that I was successful by first clicking on the “Import” button (folder icon) right next to “AutoEQ” button and select/import the .txt file with all of the listen\_r’s equalisation goodness already pasted into it. Then, all that remained was to click “Save” to name it listen\_r plus headphone name and now I am in business.
