A few random bits that might be of interest to us music/audioheads:
There’s a new documentary on Netflix that’s really interesting on Devo, it’s worth a watch.
Also, this book on the Grateful Dead called “The Grateful Dead’s Wall of Sound and the Quest for Audio Perfection, Loud and Clear” just came out, by Brian Anderson. I just picked up a copy.

This song just broke my brain, not sure if it’s a specific frequency, but the static in the background beat is completely different on a dac and SS than it is an R2R and tube. Changing the output voltage and the db on the dac changes how it reacts. I didn’t want to A/B tonight, but this noise got in my head and had to fire up the PC again to post this. Oh and the bitrate changed it too.

Both of these (I’m liking the Rubinstein more, I think) were once in the standard repertory of most top tier concert pianists (both Rachmaninov and Paderewski played then frequently), but have almost disappeared from the concert stage. Very showy, very difficult to play, and therefore a good way for a pianist to demonstrate his or her proficiency.

So this is going to be a hard sell. But it is one of the albums that bridged the gap between my old life and new one. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia after a couple of years of mild drug usage and when I was at my lowest point I got a pair of hd465 and curled up on my beanbag with almost no hope and a discman, but I was able to enjoy one of the few things from my previous years.
When listening to this you have to want to listen to it for the ride. It is a story, if even all digital, of good vs evil. Any time the vibe is interrupted that would be the opposing force. An hour long battle. I expect no one here or anywhere to appreciate that, but it was a beautiful hour of my life.
I believe the pivotal listen was dungeon Masters guide but they all tie together.
_Ermahgerd I just bought my first vinyl… I’m old? The fidelity of the streaming service was unacceptable so I got 3 CDs and one vinyl. I don’t own a record player. \*\*Crap I don’t have a CD player/transport either_

Based on a brief listen, Dieselboy doesn’t seem quite my niche. I’m curious about the genre though, Klute. It sounds a bit like sped up DnB, or jungle. Am I close?

Yeah it’s kind of DnB or Jungle, pre-dubstep or at least before I knew about dubstep. It’s a rather unique genre that I don’t expect many to enjoy. I just felt like sharing it as it was my first “hifi” experience on the dungeonmaster. There is far better music nowadays, at least in sound quality. But I have one vinyl showing up today and 3 cd’s that’ll be here within a week. So I can at least get the original quality. I listen almost entirely to electronica music, which often times isn’t mastered well, but some of it is mastered quite well. I heard someone say recently that they would rather listen to a mediocre master they enjoy than a great master they don’t. I was planning on listening to the audiophile song’s of the week but after listening to ambulance by cloth, which was pretty good, it followed up with zed’s dead reason so I posted it. My mood just made me close everything on my PC and listen to music instead of trying to follow recommendations. But I hope to pick the video back up and listen to more recommendations.
