Tuning EQ to your personal HRTF

Hi everyone, apologies if this is a repost—I couldn’t find a more appropriate thread covering these nuances. I’m deepening my EQ workflow and could use some collective wisdom.

Due to hearing roll-off above 10kHz, my focus is primarily on the 20Hz–10kHz range. My current process involves:

  • Preliminary Target (using Squiglink): 10dB tilt (DF) limited to around 4-6kHz, depending.

  • Bass: I prefer a heavier shelf, often peaking at the same level as the ear gain.

  • Treble: I’m struggling to establish a solid reference. I use sine sweeps to identify resonance peaks, but I find it difficult to pinpoint dips.

I have a few specific questions:

  1. What Q-values do you typically use as a starting point for treble corrections?

  2. Does identifying/fixing dips become easier once the major peaks are tamed?

  3. What frequency and Q-value would you recommend as a standard baseline for a clean bass shelf?
