Fantastic review. Listener is a great addition to the team, especially as Precog lost a bit of his drive. More IEM reviews, please!

Hello guys, don’t you think that something is wrong with the measurements presented in this review?! Shouldn’t Nova be the same on all B&K 5128 measurements?! But the comparison between Nova and Variations presents a significantly more pronounced mid bass tuck than other measurements shown, including the main one about the Nova. Headphones.com has made a great effort to transparency and the tilted DF curve with preference boundaries is a genius way of showing graphs. But there should be no differences when presenting the same headphones on the same rig. It will be great to see a corrected version of that comparison.
1 replyHello!
So, I don’t think there’s a difference between our measurements that isn’t explained by unit variation, differences in insert depth, or the differences that different eartips may cause.
Resolve and I measured two separate units; his was one sent to him by Truthear, mine was a unit that was bought directly from Truthear at the SoCal CanJam floor. His measurement used the stock narrow bore tips, while mine used Acoustune AET07 tips. You can see that even with these differences, they align rather well below 3kHz (and above that, the tips as well as the insert depth play a large role in how the two will differ).
Additionally, here’s a comparison versus two Variations units measured using the B&K 5128/4620. You can see that the two units from Moondrop are actually less well-matched in the bass and midrange, while potentially being closer to each other than the two Nova units in the treble.
Now, the 711 measurement of the Nova + Variations are both two different units from the ones measured on the 5128, and I mentioned that my Variations unit in particular was a bit of a unicorn (a special unit) because it seemed to have significantly less of a midbass tuck and less emphasis in the 4-7kHz region than basically any Variations unit I’d seen prior. My measurement below, followed by another enthusiast’s measurement of different units of the same IEMs.
Hope that helps!
Thank you a lot, Listener! That helped a lot. And I see the graph on the post was also update. That is by far a best comparison with the other graphs. If there was no other corrections in place to the measurements, I believe the problem was the point of adherence to the target that was different. Now, almost the entire graph lies between the preference boundaries, as I would expect for Variations, and Nova’s graph itself is uniform across the board. Thanks a lot for the update!
