Wow - you really outdid yourself here with those visuals. I’ve never seen a set of graphs (animation and overlaid ones) that shows how insertion depth, and by extension, anatomical variability in ear canal length across people, will affect the sound. That’s honestly one of the best scientific visuals I’ve seen.

Did you grab data like that on the Meta?

Lmao its literally just a screen recording of REW’s real-time analyzer :joy: People really seemed to enjoy it though so I’ll make sure to have it in reviews going forward.

I didn’t do any screen recordings like that for META but I’ll absolutely do so, if you want me to. Any tip requests?

Sorry to barge in like this, but…

Not interested in Meta measurements personally, since they’re unavailable for purchase… But with future reviews and measurements in mind, it would have been amazing to see measurements with SpinFit W1 eartips going forward. They’re my favourite tips for comfort, especially since they have intermediate and super small sizes available, and they seem to make welcome changes to the sound most of the time for me. They have a considerably wider bore than CP100+, so you might want to at least give them a try since acoustic effects of wide bore tips seem to alighn with your anatomical expectations better with most IEMs (if I’m not mistaken).

Being so cool as to have the Meta , I’d love to see that! Using Owliophile, I’m getting clear differences >10k based on the tips, which I was a bit surprised by. I’m guessing it’s from the Moondrop Spring tips’ “inset” stems, which will lead to a deeper position for the IEM itself. I’ve compared a decent amount with both the stock and with Spinfit W1s.

BTW, one thing you might want to do in the future is put a semi-opaque white box over the low end there in the animation, so that you can still see it, but it’s not so eye-catching (or seizure inducing).

Really, though, this approach drives home not only the idea of tip rolling, but why tip rolling can be a thing. It also drives home the effect of our anatomy. The length mode of that quarter resonator that is our canal (and the air volume I suppose) has a real effect. Just b/c it was simple to make (well, the number of measurements and their control wasn’t necessarily simple), doesn’t take away from the impact. So often, when conveying research, it comes down to finding the right figure to tell the story. That tells it so darn clearly!

You’re welcome to request measurements of any tips like that here on the forum!

I’ll typically leave aftermarket tips stuff out of reviews unless it really improves the experience for me, like it did with Lush.

Gotcha so just META with stock tips? Any other tips you want me to show? I don’t have Spinfit W1s, I’d grab a pair but $45 for a full pack of eartips isn’t nothing

Thanks for the kind words btw. I’ll try to get the META w/ Stock tips visual tonight for ya.

Oh, wow, that’s amazing, thank you! Though I guess I shouldn’t expect for the measurements to be performed on B&K 5128, is that right? That would have been wonderful, though…

Figured as much with regards to SpinFit W1. They’re quite pricey and it would be unreasonable to expect you to purchase them to address an admittedly pretty limited interest from the community. Though I would still encourage you to give them a try when/if you get a chance. They have a very refined balance of softness and firmness together with a slightly gripping texture that lead to an outstandingly comfortable and stable fit!

I’m not the type of guy to splurge on premium eartips typically, but I’m glad that I decided to try these out and feel like they’re worth every penny.

The graphic of insertion depth is very cool. I really appreciate it. Wonderful review.

Any chance to get a ThieAudio Hype 4 measurement with SpinFit CP100 tips (or any other relatively easily obtainable third party tip, really) made on B&K 5128? Well, I suppose there’s little if any, but I thought I’d ask just in case.

And by the way, any upcoming reviews we may look forward to? Or a YouTube stream maybe?

First of all, ZiiGYAAT. :eyes:

This is actually bringing up something I’ve wondered for a while. Based on what you’ve seen, do different aftermarket tips show a consistent delta when placed on different IEMs? Basically, does tip A usually result in a X dB reduction in bass, etc.?

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but what are “Coffee” tips exactly? Is this a specific shape or brand?

I’m also fairly treble sensitive and prefer a more neutral presentation, so these are right up my ally. Loving them so far, but would also like to experiment with a few different tips to see what kind of impact they have.
