Any suggestions where to get 2.5-3’ cables for LCD-X? I love the stock cables but they are a bit of a hassle when I just need to plug into my LG phone in my pocket. Not looking to spend hundreds for sure.
Much appreciated
Hart Audio cables. You can order from their “menu” or custom order to your specifications (color, connector, length). You’ll spend under $100
+1 for Hart. I’ve been using their cables with my Audeze and Huffman headphones.
Thanks for the tip.
It looks like all their cables involve non-elastomer jacket materials.
My issue is the mechanical noise that occurs when the non-smooth fabric cable slide against my shirt as i move my head slightly.
Prefer elastomer cable jacket materials like stock sennheiser or Audeze almost every OE manufacturer uses.
Any tips much appreciated.

Great cables at an excellent price. Excellent customer service.
But they use a fabric coating, yet it’s non-microphonic from my experience. I also think the shortest run they make is 4 feet. Email Jeremy at Audiophile Ninja and see if he can make a 3-footer for you.
I haven’t found Hart cables to be microphonic, but if you’re set on a non-fabric sleeve, here are some cable companies I’ve tried which offer non-fabric options.
Corpse Cable is very good value for money, as long as you’re not looking for “sexy”, as their designs are very utilitarian.
Arctic Cables have a variety of different cables, and the choice can be overwhelming. In your case, start at the top (cheapest) and work your way down, and pick the cable within your budget that has a non-fabric sleeve in the picture. Where you see “naked” copper or silver, the wire is covered in a transparent plastic coating that is not microphonic.
There are plenty of boutique cable companies out there, many of which source their wire from the same suppliers, so it’s going to come down to budget and looks.
Good options. Thank you. One of these will work ![]()
So I see a lot of LCD X’s 2021’s for sale. I’m thinking of getting them soon at some point. Should I be concerned? I want one as an edition to my aeolous headphones.
Care to be a bit more specific? What sites are you looking at, how many do you see, and how does that compare to other headphones in the same price bracket?
When I briefly looked at our buy & sell section, I didn’t see any. A cursory search on head-fi showed a couple listed in April and a few more listed in March.
I recommend reading the ads and seeing why each person is selling them. It could be weight, it could be sound preference, it could be that the seller is leaving the hobby or has bad GAS.
I happen to like mine on both the Folkvangr and the Mjolnir to the point of deciding not to buy a ZMF Caldera to replace them.
Regards,
Vic
I just did a quick look and count. I would have to dig deeper, but just making sure I’m not missing any possible QC issues.
Thanks for your perspective
Being an active gear enthusiast, I have dealt with a few companies with warranty issues. Mostly good experiences. Audeze was an absolute pleasure to deal with customer service wise. When the mini-XLR plug on my LCD-X connector failed, Audeze took very good care of me. Without hesitation I would purchase more Audeze headphones in the future. Great top notch company in my book! If you are worried about dealing with problems, perhaps purchase new so that you too may receive great Audeze warranty and customer service.
What kind of changes did you notice? RME reps claims it shouldn’t make any difference in performance on their forums.
And the specs on the headphone outputs are not good. Extremely low power. Under the recommended amount of power Audeze gives and the distortion spec doesn’t look so good in relation to that spec either. The rated spec is an at an unusually high THD that max power isn’t usually rated at. My ears tell me that there bad imaging, resolution and dynamics when running the LCD-X from the babyface HP output.
All of RME’s bigger interfaces have from good to absolutely excellent headphone amplifiers built in. But as a babyface user, I made the decision to invest in an amplifier and it was definitely the right way to go.
I didn’t want it to be true. I bought them for a reference and wasn’t anticipating the cost, but discovered that I didn’t have a choice.
Thanks again for the tips. Arctic Cables had the closest offering to the stock wire properties I found…their Define-Premium Series had similar or better properties for the size(26AWG) that Audeze appears to use. Audeze also shared a number of companies that also had great cables but were more expensive than Arctic Cables. Thanks again.
LCD X 2021 or HD800s? Can’t decide which one to buy. ![]()
For immersive gaming, movies and music listening.
I really enjoy my LCD-X 2021 (with a little EQ added), but for gaming I’d choose the HD800 S every time. It’s lighter, more comfortable and has a very immersive presentation. Add a bass shelf to the Sennheisers and you’re in business.
Agreed…LCD-X for music is really nice. But also could consider the sound stages from the roughly $200 AKG-702 or 612 for gaming (crispy footsteps in the distance). You can get the LCD-X + 1 of various great gaming/movie headsets for same or less than the HD-800s.
I actually only play single player games like cyberpunk, fallout, assassin’s creed etc. So, don’t really crave for elevated footsteps, and I also prefer watching movies with headphone, So immersive- movie like experience is what I’m seeking… How does the LCD X perform in that sense?
I wouldn’t use my X for movies as i like to recline or various other lying positions where the size and weight cause them to shift. So I haven’t bothered to try. Order whichever headphones you nartow it down to and try them for your situation…just about every place has a refund policy for 30 days and headphones.com policy is 1 headphone per year is allowed a 365 day return policy. Its the kind if money that you should test drive it first my friend.
The LCD-X performs well for movies in the sense that most movies employ deep sub-bass (you know those dramatic scenes with the deep bass pads rumbling the theatre!) and the LCD-X delivers that, especially when EQ’d to.
Though I do agree with Nate that if reclining could be an issue do to the weight of the LCD-X so make sure you recline with a headrest.
But I love watching movies in my LCD-X better than my Beyerdynamic DT1990s, Focal Stellias, Sendy Peacocks. Perhaps the only headphone better at that immersive movie experience that I own is the LCD-XC, partially because it does even bass with more enormity and it is closed so you won’t be bothered by outside noise…but the LCD-X is a very close second.

-Jonne
Blessings,
What about the HD800S? How do they compare with LCDX as movie watching experience?
