Audeze LCD-XC over-ear planar magnetic Headphones - Official Thread

Hi @Resolve ,

My LCD-XC headphones just arrived today. I’m seeing @Resolve all over the web re EQ settings for Audeze LCD-X and LCD-XC headphones. And here you are! I’m not certain how to enter these numbers in Roon.

For instance, in Band 1 is it:

30Hz ; 0 db GAIN ; 2 Q

or is it

30Hz ; 2 db GAIN ; 0 Q

and which bands are High Shelf, Peak/Dip or Low Shelf?

Sorry to be such a NOOB.

Thanks for your help. I want to start with a tried and true recipe first before creating my own signature.

I should do a roon conversion video. dB = amount changed, Q = how wide or narrow the adjustment is. That’s about as simple as I can explain it for now. Maybe you can paste an image.

Hi @Resolve , thanks for your quick reply.

This is the EQ preset I created in Roon and Roon Arc MUSE from, what I understand of, your Audeze LCD-XC table. Could you let me know:

Do I have each band entered correctly with regard to Low Shelf, Peak/Dip and High Shelf (is there a high shelf?

Where in Roon do I add the -6 dB GAIN for Preamp?

Thanks again.

That would be overall level slider. Honestly I’m not familiar with roon anymore as my subscription expired. So maybe someone who uses it can chime in. @Torq do you use roon?

@Resolve are all my other settings correct concerning the " Low Shelf, Peak/Dip and High Shelf" designations?

I do!

There are two ways to do it:

  1. In the Parametric EQ filter, there is a slider on the far right of the band display. Click and drag it to change the “Preamp” gain. The value is only shown while you have the mouse on it and the left button clicked.

or

  1. In your presets, add the “Headroom management” filter. In there you can set a negative amount of pre-gain just by typing in the value.

You can (and should) also enable the “Clipping Indicator” here, which will make the “Signal Path” indicator turn red if you wind up with any samples clipping during playback (so you’ll know if you need to reduce the pre-gain/change the headroom reduction further).

Hi guys, I’m new here. I have an AK SE 180 and some Audeze lcd-xc. Do you have any appropriate equalization for this system? I would like to get the most out of the headphones, thank you.

Great question, but I can really only comment on Equalization approaches or tailoring for the XC. In my experience the sub bass( 30 to 90k) needs quite a lift. Upper and lower mids need to come down to reduce shouty’ness and honk. The treble I find on the XC is absolutely fine. I don’t touch it but your mileage may vary. Anyhow. Please pass along what you end up doing on your SE 180. I’d be curious.
Another thing. The LCD XC is a bit more demanding than listed power wise. My KANN MAx I find does not pair well with the XC. Just saying. Even on super duper gain. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Hi to everyone!
First time posting here, but long time since following Resolve and The Headphone Show
May I ask if anyone knows if @Resolve measured LCD-XC Leather or Leather-Free?

I want to replace earpads on mine cause i feel really low sub and needs approx. 10dB boosts to be good.
Many thanks in advance!

I believe leather. Yeah that’s the issue with closed-backs in general, they don’t seal consistently across different heads, and that’s particularly consequential in the bass. I recommend boosting that with EQ if possible.

Many thanks for your answer!
Ended up boosting a little further on 20-50Hz region and replacing with new pads and now it seems to be better.
That could also explain little inconsistency between L/R Bass Quantity.
I think that pad wear on this pair it’s a major problem and after i replaced them, its now better.
Dreamed to measure them, don’t know if i could buy a clone IEC rig with pinna or need to inform for a payed measurement service in EU.
By the way, thanks to you and the team for every useful information and the consistency of.
EDIT:
I’ll leave my EQ Presets for FabFilter Pro-Q 3 and MAAT thEQorange here.
Both of those are linear phase.

I am a huge fan of the LCD-XC. These became end-game closed back headphones for me after I found the perfect EQ settings.

Resolves EQ settings from Dec 2021 are stellar in my opinion. I absolutely loved the improvements those settings provided, but I found what to my ears are the perfect EQ settings when I mixed Resolves EQ settings from 2810 kHz and above with 3 EQ settings that on their own already sounded great with these headphones. Your mileage my vary.

I only used Resolves 7 EQ settings from 2810 kHz and above. Below that I used these 3 settings…

20Hz Peak +9.0db, q 0.15
400Hz Peak -1.4db, q 0.15
2000kHz Peak -1.9, q 0.20

Preamp -9.5db.
