Apologize if I came off too hard. Didn’t mean to come out like that. Didn’t have good experience with the brand.
I have no problem with the original intention of the thread. I prefer the older Hifimans due to better dynamics. Favorite ones are HE-500 and HE-6. The new ones sound flatter to me.
Not sure if that first block is directed at me, don’t think it is but seriously take a chill pill. No need to get so defensive on Hifiman. @TylersEclectic is just poking fun but you take offense to it.
It’s a forum and there are personalities. Sorry you are too “professional” for some banter. But I guess your “professionalism” doesn’t extend to not insulting people based on your comment that it must be difficult for one to use their brain.
It’s a hobby, you don’t own Hifiman so stop taking such offense. Some people like it some people don’t. Stop hiding behind the guise that by allowing “trolls” to exist that you are feeding into negative behavior. Step off your high horse.
@dncnexus I hear you loud and clear and agree to an extend. We all have to respect each other. This is the reason this community thrives, his reply was harsh but so was everybody involve on this thread (to an extend ) . the OP does not know (US) discord group like we know each other.
It was neither directed at you, nor @TylersEclectic It was a reply to @Herry, but I forgot to click “reply”. You didn’t say anything wrong, so please do not take offense.
I am not defensive about Hifiman, I want to make that clear. I am just trying to let one understand why Hifiman is Hifiman, and why it will continue to sell.
I made it pretty clear that I am comparing the customer-base of the metnioned companies, not the companies themselves. So I think I did a reasonable job making that clear, then the guy went on to have the same reply about mentioning Apple… therefore seems like he isn’t using his brain, and thus the insult.
I am not taking offense about Hifiman, but rather not understanding a simple concept. Those who know which headphones are good, will buy them…
And I didn’t take any offense to @TylersEclectic. He gave a fun reply with a gif. It’s beyond understandable why anybody would avoid Hifiman, and that doesn’t offend me in any way. There are so many better options on the market, everybody has their choice in what company they will trust and buy the product from.
So, I am pretty chill about everything, don’t want anybody to think that I am standing behind Hifiman
I am not on the discord group, didn’t even know there was one. Tbh I don’t have too much free time to spend on forums, so even if I wanted to I couldn’t be on discord. Love this community and the people here.
I have nothing against anybody having a reason not to love Hifiman… there are many not to, but I think it’s reasonable to understand the fan-base of Hifiman (I am not a part of it). I just want to hear peoples thoughts, people who have had experience with various models from Hifiman… because, why shouldn’t we have a nice thread where we can hear that?
I’ve owned the Ananda, Sundara, HE4XX. I no longer own any of them. The sound quality generally met expectations. As mentioned in my earlier post, a discussion/ranking of sound quality that ignores build quality, quality control, and reliability may not be all that helpful/valuable (and attracts some of the polarizing reactions above) given the company’s track record. May we all return to enjoying the music.
so um, what were we doing here… oh, ranking Hifiman. So my limited experience
HE6se >> HE560 V1 > HE4XX > HE400 … value-wise… probably the 4XX, mainly because they’re built better. the yoke on the 560 snapped just by me looking at it and, while I won’t win a beauty contest, I’m not that ugly.
Edit: Crap, I forgot I demoed the HE6se… those were fun to finally put the pro-iCAN on high gain and not be worried about turning the headphones into dust.
Glad this self-corrected! Thank you everyone for keeping a cool head and continuing the conversation =)
I will say I’m not the biggest HiFiMan fan… but that is mostly due to build quality, and comments by the company/owner.
If basing purely on the headphones I’ve tried, I think there are some good deals to be had and quality from HiFiMan products.
Personally I’ve only tried a few but the ones I did try were generally good products for their current at the time price points… I do think HiFiMan tends to target Audiophiles with loose wallets with new releases and marginal upgrades for premium pricing, which if you are patient those same headphones (usually within a year) will be significantly cheaper… Sundara, Ananda, a lot of the HE line etc… all received pretty hefty price cuts that put them more inline if not at times beating price to performance ratios…
QC issues are a thing but I don’t think they are as bad as they used to be and credit where credit is due… the Customer support has been a lot better from my understanding.
Based on HiFiMans I’ve heard
HE1000v2(I think)>Ananda>Sundara=>HE4xx (fight me ) lol
I’m joking no need to fight me =) I don’t fight fair anyhow
I’ve tried more than this, but, the ones ranked above are ones I’ve had extended listens to and feel comfortable rating.
I’ve owned multiple HE4xx and for the price are pretty great and I prefer that headband style (one of the better Drop products, most aren’t worth the asking price or wait time outside of these and the 6xx and some of the other audio products, but that is neither here nor there). I’ve actually gifted all my HE4xx to a bunch of friends and family.
So joking aside back on target… let us continue, sorry if my having fun with my post and gif got things sideways
It wasn’t your gif, no worries. Had nothing to do with you!
Quality definitely seems to be on the ehhh side of the spectrum, it’s definitely not Focal and Sennheiser level (I personally find the HD 598 to be one of the best built headphones for the price, was completely disappointed to see that the 6xx was worse…)
Actually my “reported” failures were all wrong and HiFiMan was awesome to still check everything for me.
Pads can be removed so I thought the pads were coming off, and the 2.5mm issue was the wrong connector.
Just to clarify, do you mean the HD598 or HD58X? The HD58X is usually the one considered to be a pound for pound champ and is able to thrive on lower powered amplification, whereas the HD6XX is considered to have a higher upside of performance potential but requires more power than the HD58X to be fully enjoyed.
too be fair… I added the = and > than symbols lol… I have not heard the “silent” revision Sundara… but, I do feel that the Sundara is just a better implemented 4xx… but, like that is just my opinion man
True about > and =. It’s still early on the west coast although I think we are in the same time zone lol. I had the silent revision Sundara and it sounded good - tonality, speed, soundstage. This Dude abides!
