Dan Clark Audio AEON 2 - Open & Closed - Official Discussion

So I got my AE2C today and @Resolve nailed the audio signature… On-point and I see why the Elegias have the upper hand on the AE2C, specially on the low region.

Will continue on with them and see how far I can get.

Congrats man. Hope you have fun with it.

Can you ellaborate?

Thanks! Sure.
They definitely lack the handling of the bass presentation. Where the Elegias can give you more of a punchy feel to it without sounding like they are struggling if that makes sense?

These cans will change after 40-50 hours of playtime…let them just play at a moderate volume for a dew days…I am not a frim believer of these type of changes, and almost sent mine back…totally amazed at how good they are overall after 50 hours…like a different set of cans.

They really pair well with a really good Class A SS amp.

I am glad I did not send them back…

Oh, They are not going back. LOL
This are B Stock so I am assuming they are burnt in?

Using the iCan Pro so I am sure is more than enough :stuck_out_tongue:

What I have found is that the iCan Pro might not be the right AMP for this cans.
Trying the Jotu next.

Why you hating on the Pro iCan? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have the Jot and Lyr 3 and a bunch of other amps…tubes etc…OTL and Non OTL the amps that make these sing are SS amps…the Asgard 3, Magni3 and 3+, and I have a DIY Mark Johnson 2 watt Class A amp that is the BEST amp with these cans…makes them come alive…uncanny.

I would think the B stock were probably returned for just not liking them and how they sound at first…my guess…

Let us know what you think the Jot sounds like etc…

Yes, Like the Jotu
Also the iCan Pro has a SS option, but is just not good synergy.

Ill be using the Jotu tonight and see how it goes.

Note: Fulla 2 chocks big at 9 o’clock. Do not use! LOL

Ok, I got you. SS is definitely the WIN for this headphones.
I step my iCan Pro back and set all my defaults back.
First issue I had was the AMP was setup for my Sus.

We have a winner.

The cans definitely sound much better with the SS mode and 0dB-9dB, at 11 o’clock to 12.5 o’clock.

No 3D Stage nor X-Bass.

Works very well as well with the Jotu as well.

I am not a fan of the lows on this cans. Still trying to figure it out.

Acoustic Jazz with the Aeon 2 Open is really very, very good…Acoustic Alchemy’s CD’s are wonderful…very 3 dimensional and no recess mids etc…very well balanced…I have 60+ hours on these cans now…

Again the SS amp I built called “NOIR” is a 2 watt Class A SS amp…discrete and it really shines with these cans.

Bass is full and accurate, not bloated at all…I still prefer my Clears but these cans give a warmer overall presentation for sure…still articulate …just a slighty different presentation tonally.

Still good…Mark Garsons Oxnard Sessions is holographic! Hard to believe from my first mediocre impressions…

As an aside, what is your favorite amp or amps with the Focal Clear?

Hello,

Several work very well. I think just do to how easy they are to drive…tonally the are some of then best dynamic headphones out there…IMO.

That said, for amps, The Hageman Tuba is my favorite, the Schiit Lyr 3 is also very, very good…I had a $2K ECP audio T4 parafeed 12AT7 amp that was the best I ever heard with them.

If I had one amp to choose for $500 or so it would be the Schiit Lyr3. From $500 to $1K the Hagemann Tuba. Over $1K…the ECP T4.

You will have miles of opinions on this, I am a bass head and this is not full IMHO.
It lacks and falls short.
If I start EQing lows to this cans is game over and is trash…

I do understand that not all cans play along and synergy plays more with some cans than others.

Now, with that said, If you do nothing to this cans and leave them alone as they are they sound great.

Playing some R&B/RAP this AM and I been having some fun.

Yup your correct there…we all have our experiences and opinions for sure.

Its not a bass like a hip hip car flies by with a 30" bass speaker and 1000 watt amplifier for sure…

But if you play Briam Broombergs “Wood” album, FULL of bass, real honest bass instruments its really very. very well done…great resonances and harmonics…

Lots of electronica stuff which have lots of low freq’s I agree probably would sound not very great due to their amplitude etc…

I never listen to this type of music so for me its just great…

Have fun!
Alex

Note: I notice u have MSR7’s …I do too!

Thanks!
So far they have been fun.

Yeah their part of my collection, my son has them now though

Aeon2C are definitely not Bass head cans… I listen to a ton of Electronic music though and enjoy them with this Genre as well as pop. How many hours do you have on them? Did you buy new or used?

Edit: also what genres of music are you listening to with them @DEXCOM7 just curious. Sorry you aren’t loving them

@DEXCOM7 needs to stop A/B testing them against the Susvara! LOL

Right. He probably jumped the gun too early.

Now he has to go back to Beats or Skullcandy, and start over.

I bought them B-Stock from headphones.com
I have given them about 20 to 30hrs of used sense I got them, I am sure they have been burned in prior to me getting them :stuck_out_tongue:

I figure this one out preatty quick :stuck_out_tongue:

EDM, R&B, RAP, Chill, Chill step, Dark Chill, Witch step/electronic, and the list keeps going and going :stuck_out_tongue:

Please don’t get me wrong, Is not that I am not loving them
1- I had the wrong setup. @lost33 nailed this one.
2- I knew what to expect, but tbh, I expected more. My fault.
3- After 1 and 2 got addressed, I am quite enjoying the cans. Shit, I don’t even take them off when in calls @TylersEclectic

The truth is… Look is not you, Is me. :broken_heart:

HAHAHA!!!

Evil asf! HAHAHAHA :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

But seriously…
They definitely have their place but they will not replace anything on my lineup.

IMO it boils down are you listening to good well recorded music and looking for an accurate reproduction of instruments etc…

OR

Are you wanting to listen to loud boomy sounds?

Its ok if your looking for cans that can handle and reproduce loud low frew rumblings etc…but there comes a point when the laws of physics are hard to bend…there are a few cans that repro low bass “well”…Abyss comes to mind and a lot of the LCD’s …

But the Aeons are in that league for sure, but for most “normal” music after break in and the right amp they are pretty nice…

A.

NOTE while reading all the reviews at the DCA site I came across this:

For example, when increasing all frequencies below 300Hz by as much as 10dB and cranking out Broken by Black Sun Empire , the subtle, subdued AEON 2 turned into a bloodthirsty monster that wanted to rip my face off. The sheer slam and rumble that it put out was downright scary. After extensive bass boosting through my EQ unit, I apologised to it, resumed things to normal and then took a long cold shower.

Interesting eh?
