@lost33 We all have our own sound signatures and our own ways of listening, comfort, etc. Is all about what we look for our listening pleasures.
I am glad you like the AE2C and that you feel very strong about them.
Is all part of the hobby, what works for one might not work for others⦠No matter what you look for or how awesome is the reproduction or even your gear.
I still stand, they are not my go too. Are they bad? no, Do they play well on how I like to listen to music or for what I look for? no.
Thatās your opinion and I respect that, But the list is actually alot larger
I go back to opinions and experience, you will have miles of them
Man these cans are getting better as they ageā¦listening with Focal Clears and its wonderful and when I switched to the Aeon2 opens it was OMG why did I buy theseā¦this am it was hey these are really getting pretty good!!
Using the Schiit Jot and B2ā¦Hi-Gainā¦SE outputā¦Tommy Emmanual never sounded better!!! LOL
Dan Clark says that his headphones absolutely benefit from break in. He says the āV-Planarā driversā accordion folds take some time to even out as they break in. So Iām glad youāre observing it in a positive way!
Lately with the Jot on high gain and some volume the bass is ear shattering!! Simply amazing. Never have I experienced such a change in a set of headphonesā¦its a good and bad thing IMOā¦people that spend $700 + on these expect them to work well right off the get goā¦so this could impact early reviews and experiencesā¦
I would think you would break these in before shipping if the break in is indeed needed? And from my experience it isā¦
Are there any DAPs that would drive the Aeon 2 closed fairly/very well? The graph above(post #66) shows how loud the headphones can be driven based on the voltage, current, and power, but I do not understand how much headroom I would need. I can get a Astell&Kern Kann or the Sony NW-ZX505(the Chinese 16GB memory version of the ZX507), though I would prefer something smaller. The budget is around 500~600 USD, the lower the price the better.
Hi there. I was very happy with my iFi Nano until I got the Micro.
Nano is excellent for the price, it was perfect for my HD58x, HD6xx, Elear and for the HD800 it was just right, but not excellent. For IEM is perfect.
By the way, there is one for sale here in the forumā¦mine
I havenāt tried it, but I would be cautious and make sure whatever you get it has similar specs to the iFi IDSD Micro Black Label the Aeon2C IMO need quite a bit of volts to sound correct. Here are the specs between the two you can see significant more volts to drive the Aeon2C from the iFi IDSD Micro Black labelā¦
Spent a few weeks not listening to my Focal Clearsā¦mostly with the Aeon 2 Opens and the new toy in houseā¦Senn HD25 75 yr anniversaryā¦the Aeon2ās shine with the little Schiit Magni 3ā¦balanced on the Jotenhiem is also really niceā¦
But in the endā¦OMG the Clears are sooooooo much betterā¦sorry Aeon 2āsā¦I still like you but.
One of the great things about this site is the fairness of its commentary, on matters such as the difficulty of comparing a planar like the Aeon with a dynamic like the Focal, or of all the other subjective aspects that make it difficult to rate one HP versus another.
As good as that may be, thereās also a problem in that the resulting equivocation can make it difficult to use our member comments in making individual purchase decisions.
In my own case Iāve been torn between buying either the Aeon 2 or ZMF Aeolusāby all accounts both really, really good headphones. Iāve read everything about them here and on the internet but still not been able to make a comfortable decision.
Until now, and your post of an hour ago. In part because I too have the Focal Clear. Also because Iāve come to respect your opinions and know our listening tastes are very similar. So if you think the Clear is sooooooo much better than the Aeon 2, Iāll be buying the Aeolus and feel confident of getting something that will significantly add to my collection (especially since I already have Dan Clarkās Mad Dog, Alpha Prime and Ether C).
Like many of us here, Iāve been trying to avoid the repeat of a major mistake Iāve made in the pastāi.e., of spending big bucks only to end up with a headphone that doesnāt get used much because itās not sufficiently distinct or as good as other headphones we ownāi.e., of ending up with a certain amount of buyerās remorse and clutter.
So thanks, Alex, for being so āhonest and real.ā Your straight talk has again helped me a lotā¦Lee
After about a week, I put the headphones on and experienced the wow factor I had not had before. I was already pleased with the purchase, now I am very, very pleased. (I am low on adjectives today)
I am enjoying the A2C with the A&K Kann. Nice level of detail and the voices are really jumping out with what I would describe as an almost 3D sense of space. Songs by Zero 7 sound especially nice.
