Is this always true? For the Stellaris, the TKD volume control is a $2000 option, while the wa23 comes with a ALPS RK50, which retails for about $500.
Hi there Stellaris fans,
I am currently using a Woo WA5 with a lot of tweaks and end game tubes for this amp (Takatsuki, WE, Tungsol etc), but I’m looking for something a little more now, maybe more refined transformers and possibly a balanced option. The WA5 is a fine amp but the DNA Stellaris caught my eye as it uses a lot of Audionote UK parts of which I am a long time fan. I’ve seen a few posts here of WA5 owners whom have upgraded to this amp.
I promised myself in the past not to buy new gear without an audition, but getting the loaner into the UK is probably tough on duty and postage. Donald tells me a few have been sold into the UK however. The amp is only available direct there are no dealers here to offer a demo.
The Stellaris is unique amongst headamps as it has many Audionote UK parts. For me importantly the transformers which are next to impossible to roll in most gear (Ive done caps, resistors etc) I’ve heard AN step ups and speaker amps with their transformers and they sound sublime.
Could anyone please share any comparisons they may have to the earlier Woo gear like the WA5. It would be interesting to know. Or even if there are any UK owners that would be willing to allow a listen to their kit!
Thanks v much
Read @andris write up on the comparison of the two. You’ll find it on this forum.
Over the past few weeks I spoke with Donald North, and he said that he was considering bringing the DNA Starlett back into production. This is good news for anyone who wanted to purchase a new Starlett! His phone number is on his Website.
Sorry I searched but couldn’t find it. Any link ?
Sorry, I thought I attached it. Here you go.
It’s regarding the stratus but will get you an idea of the sound.
