Those are the Dekoni Elite Valour mister, BTW those cables are made by OIDIO in the UK, i like them because they let you color coordinate with up to 3 colors if you so choose
Oh sweet! I remember Andrew from The Headphone Show liking the velour best out of all the Dekoni pads.
Yap, i picked up on that from him as well. I cannot hear the difference but i never a bād and i never stayed with the stock pads for long. I dont want the originals to get stained for when i sell them later on. Im not sure if youāre just browsing but if you own them may i ask did you stick with the originals? did they get dirty quick?
I stuck with the original pads. Two months after getting them no problems so far.
youāre very clean
Iāve had my Clears for a little more than 2 years already and I have no idea how I survived this long using the stock cableā¦but I finally upgraded it (ZMF Lektrik S)!
@Chrono Thanks for your great Clear review! I just pulled the trigger and purchased a pair.
Would you mind telling me what software you use/recommend to EQ your headphones?
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the review, Chrono! Very helpful indeed.
What software do you recommend to EQ headphones?
Thanks again.
Roon has a great PEQ. Pairs amazing with Qobuz.
Thanks. I do have Roon but did not know about this. Wonderful.
I saw those cables yesterday. Intriguing indeed. But how are they compare to stock? Would you mind giving us a little tour/comparison in terms of sound, comfort and usability?
Since I am new to this forum and donāt plan on reading through 3 years worth of posts, I am going to ask you, dear ladies and gentlemen, directly:
(1) Has anyone of you paired the Clear with Burson DACs/Amps? What are your experiences?
(2) How about the stock cables? Reviews say they are quite stiff and hence not a pleasure to use.
Whatās your take on that?
I apologize as I am aware that those were certainly discussed already. Still I would appreciate some quick inputs if you please.
Welcome to the forum. And congrats on getting a pair of Clear. I picked up mine 11 months ago and am still smitten with them. Iām not so smitten with the cables, though, and can confirm that theyāre stiff. They might be good for pole vaulting.
I havenāt replaced mine yet but plan to do so at some point. Iāve kept an eye on cable recommendations and some folks speak very highly of Forza cables (in the EU) and Oidioās (in the UK). I think @ValentineLuke might also have some suggestions? Hart cables (US) Iāve also seen recommended. Again, Iāve not got any experience of these cables myself but they might be worth looking into.
I have Oidio, which I quite like.
Welcome!
- Check out the burson soloist threadā¦I have impressions on them over there (1st post). In short, they are excellent! I think they play well with the clearsā strengths.
- Focal cables are the best looking headphone stock cables imo, but yes they are not very functional due to their stiffness. Iāve been able to survive with them for 2 years so itās not like theyāre the worst things ever. Upgrade them down the line is what Iād suggest or get some relatively inexpensive ones from hart.
Thank you very much indeed for your kind welcome and the suggestions.
I too will wait for some feedback regarding replacement cables. Havenāt even got the Clears in my hands yetā¦
Iāve been promising to write up a review of the Burson Soloist 3XP for several weeks but I keep finding excuses to not do it. But Iāve found the Soloist to be amazing for the price, and approaching the quality of my much more expensive Pendant tube amp. The sound is holographic, the soundstage is wide. Guitars and strings are textured. Bass lines have rhythm. The highs are more extended than all my other amps but without being bright. Tons of resolution. Enough power to drive most headphones. This is all with a Focal Stellia, ZMF Verite Open and Aeolus. I donāt have a Clear.
The Focal cables are fine for listening, as long as you donāt move. Otherwise theyāre stiff enough to use as ski poles and horribly microphonic.
Can I ask what country you live in? Just asking because I personally would rather order custom cables from the same country or continent that I live in. Itās obviously a lot cheaper for shipping, but it also makes it easier if you have to send them back, not just to fix a problem, but for instance to re-terminate it (e.g. change the amp connector from 1/4 inch to XLR, or perhaps change the headphone connectors because you sold your previous phones and bought a new one from a different manufacturer). Some of the reputable companies will re-terminate for a nominal fee, sometimes for free.
Here are the US cable companies Iāve bought from and recommend, in order of cost:
Hart Audio - fantastic value for money, and very flexible because their modular system will support every amp and every headphone you own. You can customize the colors for a small fee.
Corpse Cables - well built, sound great, only downside is they only come in black (if you care about that kind of thing). The owner turned around an order in record time for a āGravediggerā cable I wanted to give my son for Christmas. Obviously I donāt own these myself, but I had a very good buying experience and I have tried them out when my son is asleep, and can vouch for their build quality.
Arctic Cables - this is where you start getting into cables that can also be defined as jewelry. I have the Cuprum, which is ānakedā OCC copper, and is gorgeous.
Double Helix - I bought some pure silver Molecule Elite cables in their Black Friday sale that look even prettier than the Cuprum. Double Helix had a bad reputation at one point for taking several months to make the cables, but they appear to have turned a corner, because mine took a few weeks.
If youāre in Europe, then as others have said above, I have seen lots of recommendations for Oidio and Forza, but do not have first hand experience with them. Forza appear to be the jewelry equivalent of Arctic and Double Helix.
Iām not going to argue about whether the expensive cables sound better than the cheaper cables. I bought the pricier ones for a combination of build quality, materials (OCC copper or silver plus premium connectors) and also aesthetic reasons. All the cables I listed above sound great to me.
Thanks for pointing to the Burson thread. I will happily look into your impressions.
As to the cables, I like the looks a lot and appreciate having 3 options to connect.
Usability, at least for me, is another important factor.
Thank you for the extensive cable suggestions and Burson impressions.
I have Burson Playmate 2, Conductor 3XR and Soloist 3 XP + Composer 3XP at my disposal to test the range of their solutions and see how they scale. I will do testing primary on IEMs from Empire Ears and Shozy and the Focal Clear as the only over-ears. I also want to compare to various DAPs at different price points.
As I am located in Switzerland, it does not matter much where I order as us Swiss will pay import taxes /fees for everything. No cable manufacturers in the country. (and if there were, you would not want to pay for it. )
As soon as I have some impressions, I will share in the forum in case anyone is interested.
I can only concur what is already said about the cables; but I just want to highlight the difference between the two European manufactors that I use, Oidio and Forza.
I really like an Oidio cable as they look good and clearly are of super quality, I can only recommend an Oidio cable.
But Forza is in a different league, they are so beautiful and nice and everytime I use them (both IEMs and HP), I smile and think they match my gear very well. Forza is a treat and if you want high quality in all areas, their cables are the one to get.
