If looking at Rosson, this video is well worth watching:
So I was looking in the deals section and I see the HiFiman HE6 dropped in price. Now it seems you need a semi truck to power those suckers. You think I can get away with the Magnius? Or am I just killing those headphones with the magnius?
I didn’t purchasing anything for Black Friday when it comes to headphones. So I’m still in the market.
You bet. Here are a couple other references.
Good points. Is 4.1 ideal? Probably not. Is it acceptable and will it deliver enjoyment? Yes.
You can try to sell the rears in order to fund the center channel.
Perhaps experiment with using one of the rears as a center channel and removing the other rear - for science and exploration.
Indeed, I just bought it all. So I got 5.1 en route. No sales at all, but found a authorized retailer who had 15% off all full price equipment. Shipped it to my relatives house and saved another 3% on sales tax, so got 18%. Pretty good deal, I remember the open box towers I saw a while back 540 each. So I saved like 220 on the towers and 75 on the center. Basically got the center for a 100 if I paid full price for the speakers.
But now it’s headphone time, debating what route to take or just opt out of headphones right now. Still haven’t got my dac or amp yet, so I’m trying to see what I can do maybe knock em all out at same time.
Nice work on securing those deals!
Regarding whether to opt out of headphones, it depends on your current budget and gear priorities/goals (both immediate and long term). It might be helpful to list your equipment on your profile page which can help others give appropriate advice.
And I thought I had almost landed! Well, the next half year spent reading up on headphones I didn’t even know existed! (No, the ones you presented will be just a few days, but then at the current rate …
But by all means keep’em coming!
Embrace the journey/pursuit, and don’t forget to enjoy the music! Good luck.
Thank you! The music is what it is all about for me. I love technology, so I am attracted to planars for that reason alone. But music is where it’s at. Some music doesn’t require much HiFi; AM radio quality suffices. But then there is the music that is so sweet or grand that you just want to be in oneness with it.
Awesome, I’ll check these out. And agreed about the music.
If you love technology, check out the innovative designs of the RAAL SR1a, MySphere, and HEDDPHONE. However, while having excellent technical performance, they may not be the last word for emotion.
I think planar is where expression/impression/emotion meets technology. But though I won’t get something that is tech only, I can nevertheless appreciate it, and maybe check it out for testing sometime.
Aside from that, you see what I listen to the most. Whatever I end up with, it should be something that makes that music shine!
I don’t know if it’s been said already but as much fun as researching and learning is you won’t actually know anything until you have them on your head and press play.
There is a long line of people in front of you that wound up in a place they didn’t think they would land in.
Yes, but besides my budget I am saying should I get the He6Se???
I mean it seems to surpass the Arya, and I was looking to get the Arya. Passed on the Ananda. Seems like if you eq those headphones they are far superior
I see they are hard to drive, but looks like my options are topping A90 or the Magnius. Seems like everyone is suggesting high power amps for proper sound.
The magnius on high gain is 4.2 wpc balanced via audio science or topping is 4.8 I believe last I saw. But that’s a 300 dollar difference.
Also confused, do I need a dac with a balanced output to achieve those numbers or does the dac output not effect the amps power? Kind of confused there too
Either. Output W should not be affected.
Oh that’s a good idea, I think will be more suitable when I got my own stack or combo, all I technically own now is just the headphones
If you’re considering the topping A90, might I suggest the Flux labs FA-10. It pumps out plenty of power and will drive the HE-6se based on my experience. To me, that’s probably the best starting point for trying to power the HE-6se properly.
When it comes to DACs, you don’t necessarily need a balanced DAC but normally XLR outputs does output at higher voltages which can help. However, with the Flux, I don’t think it’ll struggle if you used RCA either.
Something to think about, that’s a nice chunk of change. What is it pushing, 7 watts? It doesn’t say
In the additional information tab, it shows that it pushes 16W into 32ohms.
I saw those monitor stands but they take up a bit too much area for my desktop. I guess I will try to make something. I should probably be able to get acrylic cut to size at someplace like Lowes, Home Depot or Ace. Then the challenge will be to find some threaded tubing to use for legs.
Please keep us posted on this build. I’m also looking for something similar.
