Thanks so much, one guy on the internet, I really appreciate the help. It’s really nice to get the lay of the land and a recommendations to look into, and I very much appreciate your time.
Can we get an official thread for Audeze Euclid? Kinda just impulse bought them… and I am gonna want to talk about them.
Anyone else thinking about them?
Trying to decide between LCD-2f and LCD-X. Mainly listen to Acoustic/Jazz/Classical but also some prog rock and sometimes other genres. I love the classic Audeze look with the wood and I feel I’d miss having the pelican case but just wondering if the performance of the LCD-X would be enough to justify missing those things.
The LCD-X make great sound, and are easy to drive. They are heavy though. I sold mine based on lack of comfort. Felt like I was wearing an anchor.
SQ was excellent.
I’m a nut then cause the focal clear felt like this attached to my head. lcd-x creator is more comfortable to me but I’m a nut and I don’t have to do neck exercises any more.
Pulled the trigger on the Aeolus which has already turned up (UK distributor had one in stock and super-speedy customer service).
Obviously not burnt in in any way yet, but initial impressions are that it’s exactly the sound signature I was after so thanks all for the tip.
Also:
- Beyerdynamic A20: Zach’s right, it’s a great pairing.
- Limetree Headphone: When set to 200 ohm + it’s got more than enough power - 12 o’clock is beyond comfortable listening volume for me.
Great choice. Enjoy.
I’ve been doing a bit more research into passive switch boxes suitable for A/Bing amplifiers, and I’ve come up with this:
My tentative understanding is that this would enable me to do the following:
-
Connect it to up to three headphone amplifiers via 1/4"/6.35mm stereo male-male cables.
-
Connect my headphones via one of the 1/4"/6.35mm outputs.
-
Instantly switch between the three amplifiers to compare them.
Two questions (with apologies in advance for my abject ignorance):
-
Have I understood this correctly?
-
Is the reason for the two sockets per input/output that it supports both dual mono and stereo connections?
- I’d think so. Just check if your amplifiers can work without any load on them, while you’re playing the A/B/C game.
- In one of the pictures, one can see TRS female jacks. If you’ll be only working with TRS cables – i.e., the typical 6.34mm connector – then one only needs the upper or lower rows. If one is working with 2 x TS cables, most likely the other half of the row will also be needed.
You can easily check this with a multimeter, in an event of a confusing/inexistent user manual.
Unit looks well built though. Good luck.
Type: Open-back dynamic or planar magnetic

My choices are narrowed down to HiFiMan HE400i (2020), Sennheiser HD 560s and AKG K612 Pro.
I will drive these with iFi Hip or Qudelix 5K (need to decide between those, too!) I already own Meze 99 Classics for rich, warm cans and Moondrop Starfield for neutral, smooth IEMs.
What do you think? Thanks!
Qudelix 5k may not drive those. I didn’t look at the specs of each headphone though. I only use mine with IEMs.
The Sennheiser HD560S has been blowing my mind lately. I like it best out of the list.
However, another choice might be to wait until your budget expands to $350 to get the Hifiman Sundara instead of the HE400i which might sound a little too thin compared to the Sundara. Although I have never heard them paired with either of the amps that you have mentioned. I used to have a $200 maximum budget rule on headphones but raised the maximum to $300 now. I have broken the rule twice now when I purchased Hifiman Sundaras, and AKG K712.
Who is PrimaLuna and is there stuff any good? Thoughts. Thanks
Thanks. I’ve got a line on a 1-month-old pair of HD 560s for $135. Going to test them tonight.
The Sundara will be next on my list, probably during the holidays when hopefully I can snag a discount.
Thanks.
Great couple HD560s and Sundara, great synergy and highly recommended.
Hi everyone! I’m back with more questions for the group. After much back and forth, I actually ended up deciding to keep my Rad-0 and the ZMF Pendant/Bifrost 2 combo, deciding to part ways with my Verite Closed and Mjolnir 2 instead. I had focused so much on trying to love the VCs more than the Rad-0 given the widespread love of the VCs, that I didn’t give the Pendant/Rad-0 pair enough run. Come to realize I really like the pairing.
I have some funds freed up, and I was curious to hear thoughts on recommended directions. Would I see a big improvement from upgrading the BF2 to the next tier of DAC? Maximizing my Rad-0 chain so to speak. Or should I look into a higher end SS amp like the GS-X Mini as a compliment to the Pendant?
Alternatively, those of you familiar with the Rad-0, what do you feel would be a good complimentary pair of headphones (Open or Closed, I’m open to suggestion)? Candidly I’ve always been curious about the controversial headphones like the Ether 2, Meze Empyrean or the Sony MDR-Z1R, but again, I’m open to suggestion/redirection. Otherwise, the Rad-0 are often said to be weaker in soundstage and detail retrieval compared to other high end headphones, so I’d also be curious about further exploring headphones that do better in those areas.
For roughly the same cost… would you take an LCD-MX4 (on sale) running straight out of a Macbook pro or an LCD-2 with a mid-range dac/amp (magnius/modius level). Both would be new…
How long would it take me to save for the Magnius and Modius after purchasing the lcdmx4?
