Headphone amp recommendations

Sorry questions keep popping into my head. What about iphone. Will the phone dac work by connecting, via usb to only an amp, or will I need a separate DAC for that?

Personally yes but it all depends in what you’re looking for. Both are excellent amps. My only concern about Lyr is that you’re feeding it with a DAP: positive note is that being battery powered it will not introduce electrical noise to the signal. Negative is that I don’t really know how SR15 and Lyr will relate. Anyway follow your feelings. Each way you get excellent products and gear that will remain even when your system will grow up. Errors and such things are there to learn and grow. They are not only negative. You have to turn them into something positive. Enjoy

Every mobile phone has a DAC. Apart from LG ones no mobile phone has a good DAC. Connecting via USB you bypass both amp and DAC from your phone. When iPods where the only decent portable sources available what the majority of us was making was extracting the audio signal from the data port and not from the jack source. It was the only way to bypass Apple limitations to audio processing. Same with your iPhone or Android phone. For Android phone you need a player that bypasses system limitation to red book format (it doesn’t happen with your SR15), such as USB audio player Pro. You SR15 is by far a better digital transport than an iPhone or an Android phone.

Ha!
Your timing is uncanny. I just bought a Liquid Platinum for my new desktop setup. A new desktop DAC is on the way so I plugged in my R6 unbalanced thinking I’d not really feel a difference. Boy was I wrong. After 5 minutes with my familiar tracks, I had to A/B to see if I was hearing the differences. Yep, to the point where I spent a quite a bit of time listening to my favorites.

The micro usb is used to charge the unit. Can it also be used as an output?

You can use it as an output sending audio digital signal to an external DAC. From the headphones exits you send out an analogue signal that can be used by an external amp. From the micro USB you can extract the digital signal that can be externally converted to analogue and amplified.

Here’s a link to the SR15 manual on moon audio website. (Moderators: I hope it’s ok to paste the link. Pls remove if not) see pg 35 of the manual.

Oh that explain why when i use my dragonfly on my android phone thru usb c the volume cannot be as high as when i use my headphones jack without dragonfly. I basicly need an app to bypass that

Pretty easy to bypass Android limitation to red book 16bits 44.1khz. I use Usb Audio Player Pro because it was kindly included with my Pioneer DAP. Another app that can do the job is Neutron Player if you’re already familiar with it or you already have it.

Any free app that you know of can do the job?

Have you tried Foobar?

I just downloaded it feel like i cannnot use it my my tidal music files. Any app i can use with tidal? And if not how can i download lossless song safely?

UAAP I mentioned allows you to stream from Tidal but doesn’t allow you to download for off line listening. Have you tried to download Tidal APK (mirror) app? Once you’ve enabled the OTG connection in settings it has to work directly from Tidal.
Try also OTG USB app.
Interface isn’t beautiful but it’s free and it works.

Is this the app ? Just wanna make sure since i gotta pay for it

I am posting this as a follow up to the discussion recently had in Best Planar and Dynamic combo under $6000?.

I am looking to purchase a new solid state or hybrid amp as an upgrade to my THX 789. I have BF2 DAC and I use the Arya and HD6xx. I want something versatile enough for me to expand my can collection in the future without having glaring synergistic conflicts. My max budget is 2000 USD.

Naturally, I have looked at things like the Burson Soloist 3XP, Headamp GS-X mini, iFi Pro iCAN, Phonitor E etc. The 3XP grabs my attention the most because of its palatable price and stellar reviews, but I am unsure as to how it might synergize with my setup. Does anyone had other amp recommendations between 500 and 2000 for a wide range of cans that is a clear step up from a 789? Any advice is appreciated!
