Hifiman Ananda Open-Back Planar Magnetic Headphones - Official Thread

…and I’ll take this any day over the likes of Focal who’s (lack of) aftermarket support is atrocious. Apart from things I’ve read about the way they handle driver issues, their arrogance of just just ignoring and walking away from the problems with their $2.5k Arche DAC/Amp is unforgivable.

If you are up for a little more ambitious project…
Make a paper template of the support strap. Cut this out and test fit it to the actual strap, trim if necessary. Take you paper template and cut several (5-6) pieces of felt material (hit one of your local fabric stores and see what scrap they may have or buy the smallest amount they will sell). Go to town on the colors/patterns! Use a fabric glue to create a shaped pad the thickness you need. Experiment with thickness before you glue. Once you’ve got the thickness right, glue that pad to the bottom of the Ananda’s strap.

Thank you Aaron! I had heard of the nuggets but I want to find out more about the ZMF co-pilot. Much appreciated. What is your favorite headphone now?

Yes, I have been giving the custom route a chance. Of all things I am a custom uphosterer, so I think I can pull it off. I was hoping someone else had already done the work for me! The only thing is that gluing it to the strap would bug me so I may take the time to sew a zipper on the top side so that it can be removed and adjusted as needed, and if I sell them they will look like original. I am very happy with the sound on these. For a big guy I sure have a small head! I guess all the info in my head is compressed! I am glad I found this forum. Thanks again Bookbear.

Yeah I use the co-pilot on my Arya now and love it. My head’s not too small, but I find I need a lot of padding up top to feel comfortable.

Favorite headphone?? Aside from the Ananda? :stuck_out_tongue: man I loved that thing when I had it, but right now the ZMF Aeolus is getting most of my head time. Such a fun, engaging, natural sound.

@Resolve any measurements of the Ananda Stealth on the way?

Still need to get that one up.

Daily use for me is the DCA2 Noire, plus Edition XS of no humans are within 300 yards.

Until I for the Ananda Stealth on a whim ) and price )

I can’t take them off. My wife asks me to turn them down even when she is working upstairs but even so, they are simply amazing

Here are the measurements for the HiFiMAN Ananda Stealth:

EDIT - this is the SILVER Ananda, and this unit uses the NEO Supernano Diaphragm. Others have referred to this as Ananda V3.

GRAS:

B&K 5128:

As predicted, it’s mainly just brighter leaning than the previous Ananda (and dare I say a bit more peaky?).

What I did not expect is that it’s also got a bit more bass presence, on both measurement rigs. This is very likely due to an extremely slight leak - not on the rigs necessarily, because with the GRAS you can get a seal reasonably with the egg-shaped HiFiMANs. Instead I expect this to be a leak somewhere else, potentially with the cup/driver or between the chassis and the pads.

One other thing I noticed is that while the bass distortion is nice and controlled, I did measure some higher than normal harmonic distortion for 2nd and 3rd order products in the lower treble. They are below audible threshold with music, however it is something to note for folks really wanting to dive into to this with EQ.

For me, I think I prefer the Edition XS for its tonality. But subjectively everything good about the previous Ananda is good here too. So just think of it as a slightly brighter or more V-shaped sound signature.
