Hifiman HE6Se V2

It came with rings? I paid $11 for mine. How many of you got rings with your $6 ebay velour pad order?

Yup, that’s how I got my rings back in the day.

Funnily enough, right now the velour pads are mounted on my home built headphone, where they’re handily outperforming the various Dekoni pads I’ve tried. Comfort is not terrible either :slightly_smiling_face:

i struggled to put it on for like 15 min so im not sure if the mids sound better on velour…but they definitely are less soft and not angled like the og pads. Sound wise they sound similar

All,
Long time lurker and just created an account. First off thank you all for sharing your impressions and measurements on this headphone. Much easier to follow this thread than other forums.

I just placed an order for the HE6SE V2. I currently have the Anandas & Focal Elegia. Pairing them with the RME ADI 2 FS non-pro (v2) and from what I’ve read, the RME can power the HE6SE to decent listening levels but I may go to near max volume to make them sing. If anyone else has paired their HE6SE with the RME non-pro version, please do comment!

I also bought a Singxer SA-1 amp. I’m hoping the SA-1 (using XLR) will be able to power these just fine :). Anyway, based on various reviews, the Anandas are easier to drive and have a more relaxing, wider sound presentation. I am hoping the HE6SE will give me more of that exciting sound! Side note: I do prefer to EQ all my headphones to the Harman curve & these don’t seem far off even without EQ.

Replacement HE6SE finally arrived. No sticky driver issues so far :crossed_fingers: Did the honeycomb grill mod with some low density foam for dust protection, running stock pads and I’m a happy camper.

On a slightly related note, I installed Logitech Media Server and SqueezeLite on my Mac. While it’s no Roon, this setup allows me to enjoy music from my comfy chair and use Squeezer as a remote control. Kinda cool.

I literally just contacted hifiman support about my sticky drivers moments ago. I have 2 pairs with this issue now, one pair I bought secondhand, and another open box from Adorama that just showed up this morning (broken). Fingers crossed they’re not going to be sticklers about the pair I bought secondhand and the warranty. I have the original invoice dated July of this year for those, luckily. When I bought them they were literally a month old and in BNIB condition. I think any reasonable person would honor that warranty, right? … right?

Glad they fixed you up and you have your cans back in action!!

Boy, I hope that wasn’t my original unit!

you still listen to the he-6 sev2 after owning a LCD-5 thats amazing!

No, I never had an LCD-5. I traded away my LCD-4 though (for a STAX 007A and energizer). I don’t love Audeze really at all, and much preferred my HE6se v2 FWIW. I know some folks will say I’m crazy for having that opinion, but here we are

So Hifiman got back to me overnight, and they’re going to replace both of my HE6se v2’s with the stuck drivers. I was pretty happy they didn’t make a fuss about the invoices having 2 different names and addresses on them. They’re both less than 6 months old, so warranty is in full effect. Can’t wait to hear a fully functional unit!

Hey I never opened up my headphones before but how does one tell that it has a stuck / sticky driver on the HE6SE? What should I be looking for? I have the V2 as well. Just received mines the other day and it sounds great with EQ! Really enjoying them.

I do also notice the noise when pressing the driver into my ears. As if something is pressing in and releasing when I let go. That is normal and not a sign of a stuck / sticky driver?

just open the grill on both side it’s really easy and you can check to see if gold is stuck to magnets or not. Checking the other side under the earpads is much harder to do and prob not worth it.

The crinkle you hear is most likely the thin diaphragm flexing it’s normal but i probably advise against doing it too often

I 100% agree with @Ryan_Ho here. Don’t push the drivers to your ears. If the 2 most likely explanations for stuck drivers are 1) pressing them to your ears or 2) high diaphragm excursion from playing them at high SPLs… I’ve got my money on #1. Of course the jury’s still out on that one.

Somebody over on head-fi.org (username: theangelboy) made this super helpful image to show when a driver is stuck. You should use it as a reference. And thanks to theangelboy for the effort. A++

Thanks. It is kinda hard to tell. Not sure if the shadow is due to the lighting from the top part or mines is completely stuck?

left then right

The left one looks good to me as far as I can tell. Can’t really tell on the right side pic. It doesn’t look like there’s enough of a shadow cast to really tell. Maybe somebody else can chime in here?

Do you hear any difference between the left and right sides? Particularly in the bass frequencies?

The driver matching test on here is useful. When my driver got stuck, I heard a clear channel imbalance in the lower bass.

Just curious… when you had one stuck driver and one fully-operational one, how much of a difference did you hear between the two? I’m trying to extrapolate how amazing my non-broken HE6se will be using your input, lol.

BTW hifiman have been sort of dragging their feet on my RMA, it’s sort of frustrating. After a few days of back and forth (they only seem to respond in the middle of the night, which I get – I’m sure they’re in China – so each volley takes 24 hours) the guy I’m dealing with wanted to make sure that I had fully burned-in my pairs with 150 - 200 hours of play time. He suggested that the reason they sounded ā€œstuckā€ and ā€œcongestedā€ was because they weren’t fully burned in. All this after I had attached an image in the very first message to them showing the driver physically stuck to the magnet, and used the words, ā€œall 4 of my diaphragms are physically stuck to the magnetsā€. I don’t know how this leaves any room for interpretation. A thought I had is that they’re slammed right now and this is some sort of a delay tactic? IDK. What was your RMA experience like?

Sorry to hear about your RMA troubles. Mine was still within Adorama’s return window, so I went that route. I had to ship them the broken unit and several business days after they received it, they sent me the replacement.

As for the sonic impact of a stuck driver, it both kills bass and adds shout around 1.5Khz.

With not stuck drivers, it has meaty but well controlled bass, bright mids and smooth treble. It’s fairly intense, but enjoyable in the right mood.

I returned my brand new pair to Adorma as well. Fresh out of the box the new pair sounded awful compared to my old pair of HE6SE V2 with no bass, lack of dynamics and no stage. I did not want to deal with the hassle anymore even though I only paid $550 for my pair on the sale. I won’t be buying anymore HifiMan. There are just too many variations and luck of the draw when buying them.
