I went to Capital Audio Fest for the first time in 10 years or so. I went to CAF for at least two years at the beginning of my audio journey. I met people who were instrumental in putting together a speaker and headphone system. This past year I’ve thrown myself full heartedly into putting together a proper headphone desktop rig with multiple DACS amps and new headphones. Now, I may turn my attention to upgrading my source gear in my speaker system and combining the two systems.
I was able to listen to handful of headphones. The ZMF Bokeh closed and the Mezze Emperyean II topped the list. I’m pretty sold on the Bokeh closed after listening on my Fiio DAP today. This will be my last HP move before upgrading my DAC in my two channel system. Although I’m beginning to covet the Emp II.
I’m leaning toward the Gungnir 2 and the Kara F preamp for my speaker rig. I’d thought about potentially adding a Moljnir 2 to the stereo set up, but….I listened to two high end amps that blew me away. The new Headamp CFA-3 and the Linear Tube Audio Z10e. I went Friday and returned Sunday with some of my headphones to try on these uber amps. I brought my Tungsten DS, Arya Unveiled, Focal Clear OG and LCD-X. And wow. These two freaking amps are just sick. The LCD-X and Clear were amazing on the Z10e and the Tungsten were killer on both. The CFA3 is a beast…power, resolution, body. Now, it’s time to think and save $$$.
