Questions & Comments about Roon

I use a MacBook with a random HP all-in-one device. Every so often the drivers will be updated and the Mac will stop dead cold. No printing for you! Reinstall! The HP will continue to work smoothly with an iPhone or iPad, but not MacOS. After a month or three MacOS will receive new drivers and it’ll work again.

Our PCs never miss a beat.

Weird. I use a MacBook Pro with a random HP all-in-one device and never installed a driver. I just put the printer on the wifi and it showed up in my printer list. Never had an issue with printing to it. :person_shrugging:

My experience with my HP all in one echoes yours. ROON is a different animal.

FIXED - the latest update of MacOS 18.1 Sequoia fixed the issue. All zones showing now.

OOPS, 15.1 although I was concerned that it might be 3 years…

And now that Sequoia 15.2 is here, all the Zone problems are back. No network zones. No Sonos. No PC, No ipads, no iphones.
No endpoints except what’s connected to the MacBook Pro.

Rebooting the router doesn’t help. Toggling the Local Network permission doesn’t help. Running wifi only and toggling wifi doesn’t help. Ditto USB ethernet only and toggling, or both.

Turning Tailscale on or off doesn’t help. Not using Private relay - wasn’t that a few OS’s ago?
Added the above to the ROON support. It’s a Mac issue. Makes me want to get a dedicated ROON server, Noookleus or something.

NOTE A DAY LATER - Looking at the Roon Nucleus and restarting the Mac helped. I see the zones again.

Roon is an amazing program. When it works. Why doesn’t it recognize USB devices consistently? Drives me nuts.

Roon ARC still a mystery - or is it iOS’s problem?

Roon ARC is working well using my iPhone 16 pro. Running Tailscale on the MacBook Pro and on several other devices. When I try the iPad Mini 6th gen, also running Tailscale, wi-fi only on the same network, it shows me that there is a PROBLEM with my server.

I’m able to login to the ROON server on my MacBook Pro. I get as far as “Who’s listening today”, select myself, then it gives me an error. Wants me to disconnect, which removes all downloads (there aren’t any on that device).

Earlier in the week - no reboots since on the MacBook Pro - I was able to log successfully using my iPad Pro (M1) no troubles.

Why do I torture myself with ARC? Because Qobuz and Apple Music don't have a player that does parametric EQ. And Neutron Player (that I own) wants to read local files, not stream Apple Music or Qobuz.

I consistently cannot get ARC to work on the same wifi. It says there is a problem with my server. But if I turn off wifi on my phone to force it to come into my network from the Internet, it works consistently. If I want to use Roon on my wifi, I have to run the Roon app on my phone. I assumed this was the correct behavior but it would be nice for ARC to work locally as well as remotely or at least be able to sync PEQ settings between the two.

My Roon server is running MacOS 12 Monterrey. Phone is iOS 16.

Well the wifi at home is 130 miles from the wifi at the house my wife inherited from her Mom. The iPad mini and the iPhone are both with me. Both run Tailscale VPN per the ROON instructions since I gave up on setting gateway.

There is maybe 1 bar of broadband for the phone.
I can’t figure out what might be different.

ARC will not work if connected to the same wifi - like when everything is back home on Macrocosm. (my wifi broadcast ID). I can turn off phone wifi, and it then works. But of course at home on the same net as the server, the regular ROON endpoint works.
