There are many ways of doing pads that can be good, but most importantly they need to be suitable for the project.

Pads are effectively a tuning parameter as well as an ergonomic choice. So the answer is… it depends.

At the very least, from a comfort standpoint, I find pads like the ones on the HD 490 Pro to be very comfortable, and I tend to prefer ovoid pads over round pads.

Speaking of pads, just installed a pair of Dekoni elite velour pads on the Sennheiser HD 600. A nice upgrade. They seems to add a bit more lower bass without harming the midrange. A worthwhile upgrade to the HD 600.

Brief, but nice review of the Beyerdynamic DT270 Pro. Good comparisons to other headphones, including other closed Beyers. If you review the new Sennheiser HD480 Pro, maybe you’ll do a comparison to this model.

I’ve been slightly tempted to try the HD270 Pro since watching DMS’s review of this. Good, new lower-cost closed backs don’t come along that often.

Based on your review though, I think I’ll probably pass on this headphone. Mainly because I still have the 250-ohm DT770. And it still has good sound with EQ. And also larger, plusher earcups, with better pinna interaction. I’m curious how you’d compare the ergonomics and build quality to the K371 though?

A comparison to the Shure SRH840A might be interesting as well, since that headphone also has a more U-shaped response with quite a bit of bass and treble, and recessed mids in between.

Enjoyed this recent comparison as well btw.

I’d also be interested in your take on the post-2022 HD560S with 1.8 meter cable, and how you think it compares to the HD550, since I have both of those here now.

The new HD560S is still a bit too strident in the upper mids. And it gets a bit warm on my head. It lacks sub-bass as well, like most open dynamic headphones. But that can also be improved a bit with EQ, like the mids.

I think the HD550 might be a little closer to neutral. But these two really aren’t that far apart. And in some ways, I like the HD560S a bit better than the HD550… Anyway, just curious what you might think on these two.

Howdy again. Just wondering if there’ll be a companion discussion for the new OAE2 article and video.

Like a dedicated thread? I think if you reply to the article it lists it here in the forum - or at least it should. I may put something together if I have time because it’s an interesting topic. Otherwise, feel free to start one if you’re up for it.

Thank you for the reply, Resolve.

I agree it’s an interesting topic. When I click on “Start Discussion” though it generates an error message saying “Something went wrong”. And I thought this was because I didn’t have appropriate privileges or somethin.

You should have the ability to. That might just be a bug.

Hey Resolve, had a question regarding your Momentum 5 vs Bose QC Ultra 2 video. You did some comparisons between the two headphones, and in the end said that the Momentum 5 sounded a bit better - but said comparisons were done at stock sound settings. Since both headphones have in-app eq tools, I was wondering which one you preferred when they are tuned to your preference? Just using their in-app eq tools, since these are wireless headphones and neither has a full parametric eq.

I just remember that in your initial review of the Bose headphones, you said they had a great midrange that really got to shine when you turned down the base and treble, but this wasn’t part of the comparison with the Momentum 5s.

Bose QC Ultra 2 sounds better to me when considering in-app tools, but without in-app tools M5 sounds better.
