Roon or Audirvana and why

It’s February 2021.
Audirvana gives a 30-Day-Trial and Roon does not. SoEQ is a Plug-in from Sonimus and it’s free. I love how the bass boost sounds. I rip CD’s from my MAC. Just drag n drop. AIF files are created. No other applications are necessary. Playback in QT, VLC or Audirvana with the aforementioned EQ. Also can search Tidal in Audirvana. Anyways, that’s my 2 cents 1 Peso and 3 Yen.

I have Audirvana too. DMG makes some nice EQ software than works with Audirvana. I don’t use Audirvana much, but have it for office use. If you’re a serious Audirvana user, might be worth looking at DMG Audio to tandem with it. I use dbpoweramp for ripping, and SongKong for tagging. Most non-library music is from Qobuz. Audirvana sound quality is excellent.

I use Waves F6 for PEQ/Visualizer and really like it. If you don’t eq, its a nice spectrum analyzer.

This is a great thread, I have been using Roon now since November ish and honestly I can’t imagine ever going back to Audirvana 100%. I also have that as well. My use case fits perfectly with Roon, having a Mac mini as the server and multiple listening stations or rooms in my house, it works brilliantly. That’s just scratching the surface without talking about how well it recommends similar artists, the artwork, artist info and much more. Will give more thoughts on it soon. Just wanted to give my impressions thus far. If I feel this way about it in a year or so I will likely buy the lifetime membership.

I bought the Lifetime Membership, and never looked back. I use Roon every single day. In fact I am listening to it right now. What really did it for me was integrating Tidal and Qobuz with my FLAC and DSD files - and ROON RADIO, the best predictive algorithm I have used.

Thank you.
Not free?
Thanks. I’ll have a look.

@Tom_Ato
Great post!
I too had trouble finding how to activate the SoEQ in Audirvana. I’ve been using it for a month and really enjoy it.
I’mon a MBP. Can the drivers be changed? What were they, Burson? WASPAPI?
TIA,
Vac

Not free. Does cost $$.

Hi there. I was talking about the difference in SQ when using different drivers. I am using Roon mostly and they seem to have their own drivers for certain devices. Roon installed a WASAPI driver for my Burson DAC/AMP automatically.

However, Burson have their own ASIO driver which had to be installed from their website.
With this one it sounds a lot better than the with the generic WASAPI drivers.

Thanks Tom. Now I get it. I thought there was something I could do to improve Audirvana. SoEQ is free.

I agree 100% with you about Roon. More than too expensive. Imagine paying $600 and then they close up shop.

They won’t close up shop anytime soon as every single major manufacturer supports them.
They’re like Apple now enabling them to charge whatever they want.

I like the software but I hate the fact that you can only install/use one client at a time.
Wtf? You guys at Roon ever heard of floating licenses?

Also, for $600 i expect to be able to install AND use it on more than one machine!
You can get a wonderful DAP or set of cans for that money.

The reason I said that … it’s my history. I pay for software and then it becomes available for free. Yes. $600 even when I was working and making good Yen I still wouldn’t.

I have never seen a DAP. I’m located i. Timbuktu/bumbfckegytp.
How does one load music into a DAP?
Thanks

You can store files on internal memory via USB cable and you can add a micro SD card of your choice to expand the memory.
I use a A&K SR25 with a 1TB micro SD and charge my files through USB to the card.

It’s Digital Audio Player, short DAP.

You either use a USB cable or fill an SD card on your computer.

I have a lifetime membership and I CAN move it from one machine to another. It is very quick and easy.

You can move it without a lifetime license to a different machine, but it’s not truly quick as you need to back everything up first and that takes some time. It is pretty easy though! I wonder if Roon will partner up with Spotify in the future based on Spotify increasing stream quality later this year?

Every time this has come up, it has been Spotify that doesn’t want to partner. The reasons generally being given being that they want full control/visibility into what their users do and how they do it.

They are?
Is it a lossless file format or what are they up to?

Edit: I found an article about it. It is about time, but let’s see how it fares.

If its true lossless and priced right I might drop tidal; however, it’s lack of integration with other services like Audi or Roon is inconvenient. I already flip between two online sources, a third would be annoying.
