Remind me early July and I will happily do a comparison. The Bifrost 2 does not ship until June 30th for me. Excited to pair it with the Lyr 3.
For anyone who does not own one yet I wanted to show how it scales to size because it looks bigger on pics to me lol.
It’s on top of a surfacebook 15 inch. And for height a Roku remote.
Hope this helps someone I guess.
The Bifrost 2 is a much better DAC than the Mojo, on every level (both technical and voicing - unless you really like the dark sound of the Mojo).
If running it off USB, then the advantages are even more, thanks to the Bifrost 2 USB isolation. The Mojo sucks when running off computers. It’s much better with battery operated gear (tablets, PMPs).
Thanks, as someone who is on the list it helps to put the size in perspective. Dont always have the measuring tape around.
Hey @perogie I actually own both. I thoroughly enjoy both. I do think you would find the Bifrost 2 to be an upgrade from the Burr Brown dual chips depending on the amp you pair the Bifrost 2 with. The iFi IDSD Micro black label synergizes incredibly with the amp in the IDSD micro black label imo. What amp are you going to pair with the Bifrost 2?
Thanks! I’d have to agree with you. Managed to borrow a mojo and compared it to my Modi Multibit v2 and IMO its no comparison, even the Mimby its already a great deal better to me in staging, microdynamics, air, soundstage goes beyond the speaker, etc. Guess I’ll have to save up for the bifrost 2 for a decent step up.
Thanks for the reply.
DNA Starlett. Currently using the black label as a DAC for it and it has made me appreciate how nice the Burr Brown DAC really is. Im hoping for some improvements in detail retrieval and soundstage/imaging even if only minor. Hopefully it doesnt shift too warm as I heard it is a warm DAC, but, I think the Burr Brown is on the warmish side as well so hopefully not much difference there.
Still keeping the black label even if the BF2 bests it as its portability is very nice for me.
Hopefully it will ship at the end of the month but Im prepared to wait longer.

Thanks for sharing your observations - I also came across your videos on YouTube! Perhaps this is part of a broader comparison of multibit ladder (R-2R) type DACs such as the Mimby/Bimby vs FPGA such as Mojo vs delta-sigma such as Modius. It might also depend/vary with the listener’s preference and type of music. To my ear, each DAC type has a general sound signature and there are tradeoffs (similar to Class AB vs Class D amplifiers). I’ve recently done multibit ladder vs delta-sigma A/B comparisons. If I had to choose one, I’m team multibit ladder - which I think is consistent with your preference for the Mimby!
FWIW I used to think the same, specifically with R2R vs DS DAC’s.
But with higher end DAC’s I’m starting to believe the output stage is just as critical as the underlying DAC technology.
My current DAC is a Lampizator Amber 3, it’s a DS DAC, but it’s sound has much of what I’d previously associated with R2R designs, I also own BiFrost2 and a Gungnir MultiBit A2.
Very nice gear. Thanks for your input. I would agree on the importance of the output stage. It can be a challenge making apples to apples comparisons, where attributing outcomes solely to the DAC technology can be inappropriate. I’ve observed the effect of the output stage and implementation in doing A/B comparisons of different DACs each using the same AKM chip. It would be cool to experience a system where a DS DAC reminds of R2R, but then is there a consideration of “obtaining desired/similar results for lower price”?
A couple of B Stock Bifrost 2 are on the Schiit site this morning…
Thanks for the heads up. Lots of goodies on that list.
@Polygonhell If possible, could you please do a quick comparison between the Amber 3, Bifrost 2 and Gungnir MultiBit A2? Thanks!
I can give quick impressions,
Between the two Schiit DAC’s I personally prefer the Gungnir IF you can run it balanced, the Bifrost2 Single ended, currently the Bifrost2 is in my secondary headphone rig Bifrost2 -> SW51+ -> ZMF Eikon.
That changed recently previously it was Bifrost2 -> Haggerman Tuba -> ZMF Eikon.
The Gungnir and the Amber 3 are in my office, and I can run a selection of amps off either, usually that’s the Pendant which is Single Ended, though I also have a Liquid Platinum which I can run balanced off it. But most of the following is DAC -> ZMF Pendant -> ZMF Verite Closed. My pendant has a NOS 1966 Mullard 12AU7 and a pair of PSVane EL84’s, along with an NOS RCA rectifier.
I said this in another forum, I wish I had another DAC in the same price range as the Amber 3 to compare it to, the Gungnir can’t really complete with it.
The amber 3 really shines in staging both size and separation, the best way I can describe the difference with the Gungnir (which I think stages very well) is while the stage is obviously larger the most apparent difference is in the space around the instruments.
The Amber 3 also has tremendous timbre in the vocal range.
It’s also better at resolving details that the Gungnir.
Bass I’d give to the Amber 3, though both have good control.
Amber 3 might be marginally brighter, has a greater tendency to accentuate sibilance where it’s present on poor recordings.
I wanted something different when I picked up the Lampizator, and it was more money than I really wanted to spend on a DAC, but I have not regretted it one bit.
Thank you @Polygonhell. I’m glad you gave an SE vs Balanced comparison as I’m looking to use it with the same chain as yours; DAC -> ZMF Pendant -> ZMF Verite Closed. I had the Lampizator Atlantic TRP 2 in my 2-channel setup for a few months and moved to an MHDT Orchid with Tungsram 7DJ8 via an adapter to make way (financially) for the headphone setup.
I received my BF2 today and have had it plugged in for a few hours. I wasn’t going to listen to it until it had 24hrs on it, but I couldn’t resist. In the studio nearfield setup with Genelec 8020s and the 7040 sub I am finding it really different from my RME ADI-2 DAC. It’s very weighty, more 3d and really quite engaging. Where I might cherry-pick tracks to listen to with the ADI-2, I am finding I am getting drawn into everything through the Bifrost 2. Great for listening, perhaps dangerous for work
I bought the BF2 for my home system which is a speakers system: Heed Obelisk SI 3 and Dynaudio M20s right now - Harbeth Compact 7ES3s arrive on Friday! I’ll spend some more time with the BF2 and report back.
That’s awesome. It sounds like a great match for your setup.
Congratulations!
Secrets exposed: The Schiit multibit DACs have always been better with speakers.
Add another one to the BF2 family!
Now I just got to solve Shrodingers equation a few times to collapse the wave function* on how long I need to let this warm up before I can sense it’s true nature.
(* If you are into the Copenhagen interpretation)
This little Bifrost 2 has the magic sauce in it for sure…my gold standard…stopped looking for “that” dac now just spend money of headphones!! (and an occaisionla amp or 2 or 3…)
Waiting for the Fedex man to deliver a set of HEDD’s…
