That would be awesome!

I donā€™t use Roon currently, and most of my listening is done via Tidal through a Bluesound Node 2i via RNHP w/ LCD-X, or iPad Pro, or iPhone through DFC via Porta Pros.

Your PC feeds/controls the Bluesound thingy?

No, itā€™s a streamer with a built in dac.

Thatā€™s why Iā€™m looking to upgrade the dac next.

My other setup is a Mac which I stream Tidal and Apple Music from to a NAD dac.

I see now. Unless the BluOS app has EQ capability, you might be stuck. Looks like a well reviewed and priced streamer!

I really like it, but having the DFC really shows the built in dacs weakness.

Hereā€™s a screenshot of the settings.

Thereā€™s not enough there to properly eq the HD650, or any other headphones.

Iā€™m not a fancy Roon user unfortunately so right now itā€™s EqualizerAPO. I actually made a video about using graphs as a guide to equalizing headphones way back.

I own the HD600 and prefer it over the HD650, but really, any one of these is a must-listen and if you are a multi-headphone collector, itā€™s really a must-have in your collection because they are really the reference standard for headphones in my opinion. They may not have all the best technicalities of things that came out after it and cost a bit more, but youā€™d be hard pressed to find something overall better than this line of gear at its price point today.

Agreed!

@Max_Settings I just finished watching this. Those 300 ohm drivers of the HD600/650 seem pretty special.

Iā€™m assuming one can use this thread to post about HD6XX as well.

Based on this frequency response, this simple EQ profile given below may make this headphone sound more fun and a little bit wider.

APO (Peace interface)

End result should be subtle. Adjust the gains to taste.

EDIT: first version ended up being fatiguing. Backed out the gains a bit.

If I could tell my 16-year-old self one thing, itā€™s to buy the HD650. I spent way too much time sifting through reviews and listening to way too many headphones before landing on the 650 as my daily driver / reference set, but boy am I glad that I finally got them. They fit my head like no other pair, they have almost the exact kind of FR and tonality I crave from a headphone, and ever since the 6XX was released, I havenā€™t ceased recommending them to anybody who asks for a headphone recommendation under $500. Of course, there are small things - such as the soundstage and/or imaging issues that have been brought up - which might irk somebody else, but as far as Iā€™m concerned itā€™s nearly perfect.

Nice. The cables you ordered ā€“ mentioned in your first post ā€“ are the balanced ones? Does that mean you need (even) more volume?

I havenā€™t ordered any yet, but yes, I am looking to get a balanced cable for my 650 to make use of my source and amp setup.

Great. So if youā€™re willing to get into the rabbit hole I may suggest looking at some interconnects. Hart Audio Cables, DIY, or equivalent, for instance.

Every journey is personal. But imagine your 6XX being a blender. The amount of juice youā€™re getting depends on what youā€™re feeding it with. Bad analogy. I know.

Thereā€™s a lot of people in this forum with good knowledge. Enjoy what you already have. Tease the teasers if you would like to know more.

Haha, blender analogy.

So the fruit quality and amounts are the headphones.

Cable can be the cup and straw.

Blender is the amp.

Place your importance where you see fit.

Yeah. My analogy was so bad that multiple interpretations could be achieved from it. My fault.

In short, what I was trying to communicate:

  • The blender: 6XX headphone;
  • Juice: whatever input/supplies one is providing: DACs, amps, fancy cables, etcā€¦

In one sentence: he has a very good blender.

I still donā€™t get it
