I agree with this actually. It’s also not an “anything goes” kind of thing, and largely the same with human perception generally. However priming is certainly a relevant part of psychoacoustics. This goes back to even the reasons why DF is the relevant sound field for headphones, given the sound in that use condition comes from the ‘sound helmet’, and not any particular direction/location. So with headphones, we don’t have priming for direction or locatedness the way we do with speakers, or the way we do when naturally hearing the world. And my contention is that the way your attention interacts with a given perception is similar in kind, as it can meaningful impact the experience. That part is far more difficult to pin down or indicate as universal.
