You are welcome! I published a full review, in case you are interested (Iā€™m not linking it here as I already linked the LSX review previously).

Anyone had the pleasure of hearing the IK Multimedia MTM monitors?

Compact monitors, come with mic for its built in 1 step DSP correction, twin 3" drivers each monitor, apparently doing a decent job of hitting 40-50hzā€¦

(late seeing this) Iā€™ve working in a home office for decades, have bad back (osteoarthritis), and early on found that good orthopedic chairs are a dire necessity. Check them outā€¦they will save your ass.

2 recommendations below. Always make sure to get a chair with the ā€œsliding seat panā€ feature (the single most critical adjustment in a charā€¦it accommodates length of the thigh):

Reviving this old and very useful thread as I start to do some research for my home setup.

A couple that seem like a good play in the powered space.

Focal: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1329217-REG/focal_shape_65_6_5.html/overview
Genelec: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1244723-REG/genelec_g4awm_g_four_90w_active.html
will probably be upgrading my turntable (open to thoughts but currently thinking Technics sl1200gr) and will want the ability to connect the system to that turntable OR to my iPad for Quboz.

Anyone have any experience with these?

And yes, I am planning to visit a HiFi shop not too far away but I am not sure what they carry yet. In addition, I am far beyond anti-social, leaving the house less than once a week.

UPDATE: I should add that these would sit on a china cabinet and likely be near a wall, unfortunately. So that may impact which is the ā€œbetterā€ choice.

Just to understand what you are shopping for (per the thread title), you list two powered speakers and two passive speakers. (Active = internally powered; Passive = unpowered, requires an external amp.)

While powered speakers are certainly easier to set up and more compact, they are not for tweaking or for purists. Amps and DACs can have an enormous impact on performance, but the setup is ā€œdecided for youā€ with powered speakers. Steve Guttenberg is no fan of the limitations of powered speakers. However, they can meet and exceed many usersā€™ expectations too.

Regarding placement on a china cabinet, that can be a big issue because of lack of air space, picking up resonances from furniture, and being too high for optimal listening. Really, truly you must hear how bad rear ports can sound when next to a wall. Some bung up the port and add a subwoofer too. Iā€™m using slanted pro audio foam pads to deal with resonance and ear height issues. They made a big difference.

Regarding these products, Iā€™m currently shopping and demoing for similar products these days. Listening answers a million questions.

Right, my fault. The Elac I linked mention being created with those furniture issues in mindā€¦ hopefully not just marketing.

Yes, there is a more general, albeit bookshelf speaker topic

That has been a slow topic. And there isnā€™t a general speaker advice topic.
I suggest the PTB drop the word bookshelf from the above link.

Can you do us a favor and snap a few photos of your room, listening position, furniture, walls, reflection points, and approximate room dimensions, etc. I agree, that you should likely look at a front ported speaker if the speaker is going to be right in front of the wall. Letā€™s see your space so we can give a better recommendation @elliot .
