Which DAC would you get and why?

Where does the D90 fall in the lineup as far as sound quality if the Airist R2R is the sweeter sound, SMSLSU8 is the harshest, and the Bifrost is the most musically involving? Trying to possibly exchange my SMSLSU8 and Topping is a brand they carry.

If I remember correctly Ian @Torq mentioned in another thread, that for the Topping D90 should be very similar (if not indistinguishable) from the RME ADI 2 DAC fs In overall sound quality. If IIRC he also mentioned something to the effect of ‘if you only need the DAC portion the D90 could be an alternative to the RME’.

The D90 is effectively indistinguishable from the RME ADI-2 DAC FS. You pay less since it is just a DAC. If you only need a DAC, it’s a viable option. If you didn’t enjoy the original Gungnir MB then, unless you were using it via its single ended outputs, you probably won’t enjoy the Bifrost 2 either. Topping’s DAC/amp offerings have (to date) pointlessly high output impedance so they’re only suitable to use in that form with higher impedance headphones. But you an just buy a DAC-only versi…
