If you look at his measurement (blue line) it looks the same as what I found as well. Brent uses the same system. Now… the methodology is a bit different, and I don’t think he shows a target (something that I think may be useful for showing raw measurements). Mainly he uses the under-the-desk method, as shown in the photos. I’ve since moved to an upright block method. I’m finding this does a better job for closed-back headphones since it ensures a more consistent and reliable clamp with the same pad compression.
That was quick! Thank you very much, putting them through the paces on Webex meetings currently, which is the reason I wanted to use them. So far the noise-cancelling is more effective than I expected, in a good way. With the Bose I would have a terrible ear suck feeling, drove me bonkers.
Here is a quick shot of them in their case standing up, not ideal but unfortunately necessary to ensure the battery does not drain faster than it should.
Just out of curiosity, have you guys seen Koji’s recent comparison of the AirPods Max with the Hifiman Susvara and other high-end headphones?
he compares it with the Abyss Diana V2, ZMF VC and the likes of such, it’s a very interesting take.
I’m a bit late to the party…
I don’t like what the effect of selecting the vocal profile in Headphone Accommodations is. The change in FR is good, but it also applies dynamic range compression. This is almost unbearable on music with a high dynamic range (like classical).
There is also an option to add an audiogram. This allows you to select a picture of an audiogram. But if you select a picture without an audiogram you can enter values manually. Perhaps this can be used as a poor man’s crude equalizer.
I’ve put in the values as below. I think it improves the sound over the standard profile and Vocal range profile. But I’m also curious what the effect exactly is. Can this be measured?
I have a pair of these and love them for when I want wireless freedom. I think they sound way way better than the Sony xm4’s I had (I sent that muddy mess back right away) and much more enjoyable than the Bose QC35’s (that are, by the way, the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn). Of course none of these come close to my beloved Sundara’s , Elegia’s or even my HD6XX’s but these are different cans for different reasons. It’s all a matter of perspective and convenience sometimes, even more than measurements.
Best way to clean the pads from a AirPods Max?
Recommendations for how to clean these?
I believe that it is mostly from sweat:
Throw them in the dishwasher and let it rip.
I’m kidding - don’t do that!!!
Consensus online seems to be a damp lint-free cloth and mild detergent. It is recommended to not submerge the pads entirely, but rather gently wipe the effected areas with the cloth. Be careful.
I take no responsibility if things go awry.
Thanks! Any recommendations for a mild detergent?
I’d use simple dish washing liquid soap. Clear and unscented.
Much appreciated @generic!
