Let me google what Kester is.
Edit: Its the brand, got ya.
So 60/40 normal solder wire. Kester brand is good. Guess different thicknesses to choose from?

They do all look the same don’t they
.031 or .8m…is what I use
This is one of my early builds on a BH Crack, quartered oak and patinated copper, then a honey locust cabinet with purple heart splines that could be used on a Crack, but instead it was used on an amp of my own design. Much of my work with Cracks can be seen in Google images under Steampunk Bottlehead Crack
I’ve managed to get mine up and running, had it built by Paul at Bottlehead and had a Cherry base made too. The base I assembled and finished, it turned out ok with Tung oil finish too. Sounds amazing.
Man that is one clean and elegant little build. I like it!
Could someone measure the height from base to top of tubes? Can’t seem to f8 d this info anywhere.
My Crack is about 18cm tall with a 6080 tube and about 22cm tall with a 6AS7G tube
Meta: does a build log go
1). here
2). in its own thread
3). Off-site
you can post your build log here… =) good way to showcase the process from a new builder =)
Ok. Well. Ahem…
( I have no idea how to do this.)
Started with some basics of soldering, I have never er worked on a pcb before, nor ever had any training, so my work looks exactly like you would expect it to.
Then I read the manual for the crack, got to the “tape your joints” instruction, went in the garage and grabbed the domino got it close enough and clamped it up. It’s alder, not art.
Maybe if I fall in love with it the way others have I’ll circle back around to doing a crazy finish, but if I do, it won’t be on alder.
Looking good buddy!!
Started building two Bottlehead cracks with speedball this weekend (One to keep and one to sell). Well, I just started on the cases. I thought I was going to like the more reflective finish but after sanding one of them today I kind of like the more matte finish.
Still deciding.
Gloss is nice, but seems to be a dust and fingerprint magnet.
Looks good!
Paul is a great guy…notice he put in the dual noise diodes! Good!
