Cayin N3Pro

2.1? Mine is 1.2, did you mix up the numbers or is 2.1 correct? I appreciate you taking the time and helping

Another quick question. I go to the “about” section on the pulldown menu, which tellss me my version of the firmware is 1.2, I then go to OTA which tells me another firmware is available, however each time I attempt to download, I get an immediate download failed message. Any ideas how to download and install?

Hi. Yes the newest is 2.1. The problem is the OTA only works with the next version after yours, so the 2.1 is not possible to update OTA from a 1.2.

You need to download the 2.1, place it into the root folder of your SD card. Then go to the update section and choose to do a local update. You will need to point the device to the directory with the update file. Then you can update.

You find the file and instructions here:

Happy to help! :+1::wink:

Well I think I have come to the end of the line and declare this one week old Cayin a POS . I installed the 2.1, but it made no difference. I have determined that the unit will not stay in unbalanced mode. The unit is in balanced 95% of the time, however I am plugging in unbalanced. When it randomly switches to unbalanced it will start playing and the unit changes immediately to balanced mode and the sound goes off. If anyone has an idea how to get the unit to stay in unbalanced when the HP is plugged into unbalanced I will try it, otherwise this is a lemon.

I have identified the issue, it is the connection in the unbalanced socket. If I pull the connector towards me and hold while it is plugged in, the unit will stay in unbalanced mode and the unit performs perfectly. As soon as i let go it switches to balanced and i lose the sound. It does the same when in line out.

I am sorry to hear that. And I hope you can switch the damaged one for a new device with your dealer quick.
My own distributor told me they are selling hundreds of the N3pro each month with very little returns.

It’s a really wonderful device though.
My tip in case your ready to spend a bit more is the N6II though. It’s larger and heavier and more expensive but for me it’s Cayins best DAP. I have all of them and it’s my favorite by far. You get Android making it easy to use streaming services (should you need that). And you can switch motherboards which makes it very flexible.

Although the N6II has no tubes, the sound is far superior and very very close to the N8.

Thanks again. I think I am going for the unit you suggested.

:+1: Just a suggestion really. Still, I find the N3pro an amazing unit for the price. But yeah, the N6II makes a lot of things easier.

I am curious to read your thoughts on the N6II.

One more piece of advice when you go for the N6II. It will come with an older version of firmware too. So first thing you need to flash manually as well.

Just so you don’t run into trouble. :wink:

I own an N3 Pro, and since my Shanling M3s is in an almost irreparable state at this point I’ve tried to start using my Audeze LCD-i3 with the N3 Pro like I did with it (using the V2 Cipher Cable thru the Type-C output). So far though, I’m not able to control the volume output at all either with the Cipher buttons nor the N3 Pro’s volume wheel. I know I’m probably double-amping and not really using the N3 Pro how I should be here, but I really miss how the M3s allowed me to use my i3’s / Sine DX without issue with the Cipher to a dap along with the Anker Type C to Lightning adapter (which is my preferred way of using the i3’s). Is there anything anyone can think of that might help this issue?
