I’m not sure about the stock tubes, did not try those yet, but with the TS5998’s it’s pretty trippy.

What keeps surprising me is how good even crappy recordings are, it’s like no matter what I throw at it… I’m impressed.

There have been some nights the past few weeks where I’ve had long long long days working and need to just chill out before bed and get real sleep. This Elise + Verite combo (no eq!) has probably been bad for sleep. I end up falling into a deep listening trance for a couple hours of jazz music and this combo and forget I need to go to bed.

Anyone here know the differences between the original Elise and the MKII.

I got offered an original, but I noticed that it sold for significantly less when it came out.

Extra credit to anyone willing to put out there how much they think an original Elise that’s pretty nicked up is worth.

Thanks all!

Considering performance, condition, cost of tube rolling, and that a fully pre-built crack +SB will sound better (having owned both), then… yeah, I’d pay $400.

Of course, the person selling it will scoff hard at that number. Probably best to just thank them for the opportunity and pass. Just my 2Ā¢.

I appreciate the advice! This is actually what I was thinking based on msrp, so this is helpful in letting me know I’m not crazy.

The Crack + speedball is definitely under consideration, but knowing that it will go on sale (at some point) deters me from paying full price.

I would also agree with @ProfFalkin and skip version 1 all together. From my research there was sonic improvements with the mark 2, such as improvement in RFI noise, as well as some internal upgrades that improved the sound such as a better input transformer. I know the professor had version 1 and it was his favorite amp he has ever owned  JK!

LOL! I see what you did there.

That honor goes to the Dragon Inspire IHA-1, actually. I put over $650 into tubes trying to make that thing sound decent, and came to the conclusion you just can’t polish a turd.

So you were also right about the scoff-ing :joy:

I guess he found someone who only looked at the mkii reviews/pricing and was falling over themselves to pay waaaay more.

That’s very interesting to read, I though the first version was also incredible and version two just got some small tweaks.

I just remembered I need to look up that song for you! It’s licensed music, so not sure about the details. I will look this week. Apologies been a crazy week.

@MRHifiReviews Haha, no worries, that would be amazing. Lately I mostly listen to female vocals and that one is just amazing, would really love to know who’s the singer.

I was actually confused about why is it a problem to just share that, wouldn’t that be great for the artist ?

Anyway, really appreciate you remembering

Not a problem at all I just need get into the final cut library to see the name of the track. I am pretty sure it won’t list the singer though as it’s commercial licensed music for advertisement use. Next time I am in final cut this week I will take a look!

That would be amazing, thank you.

Hi! I received my Elise yesterday. It’s my first tube amp. Feliks recommends 30-50 hours of burn in. Should I have it play music during burn in or is leaving it on good enough?

I use music for breaking in equipment, sampler CD’s are a good choice with a variety of music types. There’s a pair of SONY walkman era headphones I use for testing that work good for this. Set it up for what you’d consider a normal listening level and let it run.

Cool. I set the amp to turn on and off every 7 hours. I’ve got Spotify playing the whole time.

I fell asleep in the middle of the day listening to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd on my Feliks and Clears. I’d call that a good day.

I’m 15 hours in now. Holding off judgement but in the meantime I’ll post some glamour shots.

This sounds like my ā€œgood daysā€ in high school - though you need to replace ā€œFeliks and Clearsā€ with ā€œWalkman and included Sony headphonesā€ :joy:

Many many hours listening to those bands, and now I get to do it all over again with much improved sources, amps and headphones!

Enjoy that combo - I bet it sounds fantastic.
