Hey Thanks man. Yea they are solid headphone, I can see these being a great option for travel and work.
My impressions with the Elegia. She still need some brake in, so ill need to update after some time.
They are a step down from the Clear but are close enough to be very satisfying to me.
I found these do great an wonderful mids, highs are nothing special IMO, but they are very good. They have super good detail, sound stage (close but not to close). They are very open for being a closed back, so that’s a plus.
The bass is present, its not a typical closed back which we knew already. However its there, you can hear the bass, you cant feel the bass but that’s not this type of headphone.
I can see a solid market for this headphone, its nice and the cost to value is great.
If you love mids, then you need this headphone IMO. I think these are doing something different to the point where I can see people owning both these and the Clear’s.
Correction: I can feel the bass on some songs, this probably goes back to the graphs above regarding the dip only around 100Khz. I am listening to Billie Eilish’s album in flac format. Most of it sounds good, some of it sounds like its missing something. That’s really only if you jump off another headphone that has emphasized the bass more. If you grab these for a listen in the AM or work I think its very hard to be upset with them, sure pop and hip hop might sound better on something else, but I love them.
Hey Guys, What are you thoughts on this, if your dac has 2 outputs is it bad to utilize both at the same time?
My ADI-2 has single ended and balanced out, I have balanced running to the THX and single ended running to my Liquid Platinum.
Do you guys see any issue with this?
The only reason I ask is because I am using the Elgia on both the THX and the LP at the moment, it sounds amazing on both.
I have also tested them with: Geshelli labs 2.5, Liquid Spark, Aune x7s, THX 788, Schitt MJOLNIR, and the ADI-2.
So far, they all sound good expect the, LS, and the X7s are OK. My fav at the moment is the LP using the ADI-2’s dac.
Should be fine. I don’t see why there would be any issues.
Merry Christmas!
Going through this thread from a year ago and your advice around knowing your reviewers preferences and definition of what they are hearing and now that aligns with your listening wants is spot on!
My Elegia’s I think have about 100 hours on them and all I can say is that mid range and vocals are amazing, wow what an amazing headphone.
Focal really makes an amazing product.
Ordered my elegia’s on saturday with a chord mojo amp, can’t wait for my delivery!!
Should be a solid combo! Hope you like it.
Just received my Focal Elegia’s today and initial impressions are positive, as I am really enjoying these headphones! Will comment further in a few days.
What’s the first thing that struck you as good about them?
Just curious. I haven’t heard them.
The first thing that stuck out at me was Detail, these cans have really good detail, also stage is pretty good for a closed back. Will need to listen more as this was just a quick initial impression.
Thanks.
I’ve found that the things that immediately stuck out as good were usually what was at core of that product.
Like with the ZMF Auteur, I thought they were neutral, but definitely not neutral. A paradoxical thought, I know. That initial impression stuck with me as I dove deeper into the sound to explore why. The sense of general neutrality without the dry, too airy, or sterile like feeling that other “neutral” headphones gave me, like the HEK v2, hd800, etc. Fun without being a “fun” V shaped response. Fluid, but not wet. You get the picture.
Anyway, sometimes people’s 30 second impressions are just as important as their 30 day impressions, so I thought I’d ask.
I like this train of thought…will have to try and remember it for initial impressions!
Dude, honestly, at first I thought they were bass light, and nothing special. Expect for the midrange, vocals and how open they sounded for a closed back. I honestly thought… OK, they kind of sound like my LCD-2C closed backs. In terms of how open they sound and how the vocals sound great. Expect my LCD has more bass. I prefer the Elegia to the LCD for closed backs honestly.
Well, I make this mistake a lot to be honest, don’t judge a headphone too soon. I gave them some burn in, left Fubar running for a few days when I wasn’t using my computer.
After about a week, they really opened up. The hole headphone is fantastic, the vocals and midrange to me are just amazing, they really shine with Jazz or like “Lena Del Ray” type of music. I love listening to them, after a bit you don’t even notice the 100khz dip. The rest of the bass is fine, sub bass is good and detailed, plus it thumps. It’s just, you will notice that pop music that uses that 100khz range sounds a bit lacking, but the mid range and the highs totally make up for it.
Now I think brake in is kind of silly, I am one of them people. Yet, even with my Campfire Solaris, they had 0 bass presence until I gave them about 80 hours of use. I was on the form being like… bass? You all said it had bass? Well I look dumb now. So totally give them a 80 hours before you get all critical about them.
I would recommend getting them from headphones.com or any place where you could easily return it, just incase that 100khz dip is too much for you. Honestly I don’t notice it until I switch to my Clears during the same listening session. I love my Elegia’s however I am returning them to put the money towards getting the Stellia. I am totally going to buy them again next time I get the extra cash, use them as an at work headphone.
I’ve grown to really appreciate the 100hz dip, as it adds definition for bass below it, and separates it from the midrange very cleanly. I also find in a closed-back this is a good idea, because without it there’s a risk of a bit of bleed into the mids.
Hi @Torq
Did you end up getting new Elear pads to measure with Elegia?
Pretty sure, he(Torq) no longer has the Elegia. Just giving you the heads up =) I could be wrong, though…
Thanks. I saw he sold them but moreso asking if he did get new Elear pads and measured, before he sold…
That is a possibility…
Cheers. It’s the reason I asked
