I’m listening to my Elegia right now, and honestly really enjoying the bass, but the added neutrality and excellent tonal balance really shine through. Honestly very relaxing headphones to listen to!
They definitely sound better with Qobuz over Spotify.
Spotify makes them sound “sucked out” or further away and quite…which also might be why people’s opinions of them aren’t so hot…I had to turn up the volume to get a similar presence with Spotify as my source. With Qobuz they have what I expect from them in presence and authority.
I highly recommend requesting them from the preview program as they are excellent and shouldn’t be overlooked! @MartinTransporter what are your thoughts on this?
I think I need to, if I like the sound I might want to swap my Elear’s for them. Then save up for a pair of ZMF Aeolus. I mean it says something about the Elegia if they are still in your kit with all your other options you have.
I had this feeling with Tidal over Spotify.
Tidal gave me with many songs, the impressions of beeing to thick, with more body as I needed
Less with Qobuz over Spotify- having the exact amount of body, richness and space I do like with my RME + 789 stack.
Spotify + xDSD with some added Bass Boost(most of the time off)here and there is my go to for the office with the most playlists if not running my redbook flacs
the 1 month with qobuz had me not add enough favorites and arrange playlists yet
you get with the Elegia a very chain-revealing headphone or “neutral” if you want
the low end is perfect, if you have a good seal, there is often a quantity of subbase surprising me, when concentraded on other things besides music, which sucks me back into the song and there is the scaling I miss with all my other hf.
The Elegia has a nice stage for a closed back and what often comes in my mind is height of the images and less the depth if that makes sense
the midrange is the star of the show and the highs are extended and so well controlled… giving you the sparkle though not getting annoying or even sibilant
The timbre is my thing and I prefer it over the Clear
You won’t get the same isolation compared to the Dan Clark Audio AOC2, though it’s enough for most situations.
What you get over the AEON is the more open sounding closed back with pads I can have on my Ears for hours at the office and at home in the evening
With other closed backs on pleather pads I get hot ears and the spl fatigue after half an hour or 2
And yeahh what you said Tyler… the Focal design is not screaming anything in your face. It’s a good looking hf nobody would raise and eyebrow
My headband has a grey sock around it- so I officially don’t care anymore
@MRHifiReviews, I can “second” what both @TylersEclectic and @MartinTransporter say about the Elegia, it really is a great closed back headphone that doesn’t really sound like a closed back (if that makes since) I don’t have the Elear but I do have the Elex and I prefer the Elegia over the Elex. The Elegia seems to have more detail and a better overall presentation of the mids and highs, the Elex can be a little fatiguing on some tracks where the Elegia is not. As Tyler suggested, when you are able, I would check them out through the community preview program.
@MRHifiReviews, to add some further information comfort has not been an issue with my Elegia after I reduced some of the clamping force (very quick and easy to do) as they have more clamping force then the Elex. I have worn the Elegia’s for hours on end with no comfort issues whatsoever.
Mine is due to arrive on Friday, February 7th, 2020. That is just a few days from now!
I feel like I’ll benefit from having a headband for it in order to prevent staining the bottom of the stock headband. Any recommendation for one would be very much appreciated.
Thank you @MartinTransporter@TylersEclectic@jb77 Working on swapping the Elear’s for The Elegia. I think since 80-85% of my listening is now via closed-back rather than letting the Elear go to waste having the Elegia would be a better bet. 7 times out of 10 I always reached for Ananada vs. Elear… sounds like the Elegia is more similar from a tunning perspective to the Anandas.
if it helps as reference- I loved the Ananda and really enjoyed the DCA AEON 2C
seems we have a similar taste with the ifi stuff and with headphones
so if you get the Elegia- you won’t regret it
First extend the headphones arms out all of the way, then “gently” and “slightly” bend the exposed metal section only, take care not to bend it much as you want to make sure they still easily slide back into the frame as this is also part of the swivel for the Focal line. for me it only took a very small amount to make it far more comfortable.
It’s basically the same “technique” used for the 600 series of Sennheiser headphones.
Thanks for that info, and just for clarification the bending of the exposed metal part is outwards or inwards? Or does that depend on your own case/head size/comfort?
