General headphone discussion

Just so your aware these are just surge protected outlets unless you lose power.

There are some very high end UPS solutions that supply power from the battery in normal operation, but all the consumer grade stuff I’m aware of is just a pass through until you power drops below some threshold voltage.

Right, I was aware. Thank you!

The Mac’s USB implementation doesn’t really have the potential to make a difference here, as the Unison interface is already EMI/ESI isolated.

So, I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t just the difference in EMI backwash from the different PSUs and how they may interact with the linear PSUs in the DAC/amp.

Assuming there is an actual, vs. perceived, change, of course.

Either way, I’ll take the win!

Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone has heard about a new headphone platform that’s using supercapacitor technology to supplement battery life and performance. An unnamed Asian conglomerate is using this tech in headphones that were released to the market in October 2025. I’ve been doing my own research to figure out which headphones they could be, but everything from that time frame comes up blank. Has anyone in this community heard anything about supercaps being utilised in headphones? I’m very interested in this tech and would be great to get my hands on this product. Thanks all
