I’m coming very close to pulling the trigger on the Magnepan .7s. Briefly I measured and thought I could fit 1.7s in the office, but that’s just overkill. My hiring process for a new admin is baroque. Or perhaps just broke. In a tight labor market, I have a moderate but not stellar salary. I need to go to HR, have them post the position, interview/screen applicants, refer them to me for a 2nd interview, then make an offer, AFTER WHICH they have a background check - about 4 weeks under normal circumstances, THEN they finalize the offer. By which time any good candidate has secured other work.
So I figure it’ll be November, if I’m lucky, before I actually hire a new admin. So all the more reason to have a bit of sound in my office while I craft ESG portfolios.
I have decided to add a focus are in my practice on sustainable / responsible investing, otherwise known as ESG for the three legs of that stool - Environmentally sound, socially Responsible, and good Governance.
Does the work need to be done in person? We are contemplating distance admins for the first time.
If it could be done only at a distance, then my admin would have stayed. The admin really does check on materials in the office, orders replacement for out of date things. Does a ton of paperwork on insurance work, greets clients, reviews all non-financial things, does mail, scanning, assembling of applications when clients are in the office, handles phone, appointments, schedules, teaching people how to use online access, and writes notes for me based on things she learns from clients.
I can use a remote admin for phones and basic scheduling. They can handle the admin part of scanning checks and papers, but I have to go to the front office area to put things on the scanners.
It really should be an in-person position. They also fully participate in branch strategy planning, because when I do better, they do better.
Oh, and a distance admin can’t overwater plants . . . .
I’m looking for an investing firm that shares my values, can you help @pennstac? My values are Eccentric, Reckless, and Gullible, otherwise known as ESG. My portfolio includes lawn darts, firewood, and used tires.
Have you considered crypto?
Anyone here have any impressions or opinions on Audioengine speakers, specifically the HD6 wireless? I saw someone here liked the A5+.
My headphone setup is my “hi-end” audio experience, so my expectations for these speakers are not at the same level. The HD6 has gotten good reviews, and they seem pretty slick for what they are.
I will use them mostly for TV audio, music streaming, and playing the occasional CD. I might add a subwoofer down the road, we’ll see. I’m approaching the time when the kids move out, and we get a smaller place! I’m getting rid of my space hogging living room audio rig! Space will be more at a premium at that point.
I’d appreciate any thoughts or experience with the HD6.
I have the A5+ at my home work station, and they sound fantastic. I have them paired with a great DAC (Chord Hugo TT2), which helps, but they have power to spare, have terrific detail, and are reasonably-priced.
I also have the HD3s in my work office and (while smaller and less powerful) they’re similarly effective.
I don’t have the HD6s nor have I heard them, but I have a lot of faith in the brand.
Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback!
From my research the A5+ and the HD6 are quite similar, so they should sound pretty awesome! I was originally going to get the HD3, but Drop (ugh) had a really good deal on the HD6, so I went for it. I also looked at the A5+, but for $50 more I could get the 6.
I look forward to trying them out, glad you’re happy with yours. It sounds like they make really good stuff…
As I am emerging into the world of HiFi and recently picked up an iFi ZEN DAC V2 to go with my Focal Radiance, I have a question about the USB-A to USB-B cable for the ZEN DAC. The iFi comes with a seemly unique USB-b end that fits into the DAC, but I wanted some extra length. I have a monoprice USB-a to USB-c cable, but it is more standard-looking. It seems to work just fine in the iFi DAC, but am I missing out on something by forgoing the iFi specific cable? I have attached a photo for reference:
If it sounds fine then no, you are not missing out. I doubt the ifi cable is anything more than a branded mass produced cable.
The blue cable supplied with the DAC is USB 3.0 and the grey cable is USB 2.0. The grey cable will fit in the DAC just fine, but will not support the same data speeds or power output.
The extra data speed of the USB 3.0 cable may not be required since it appears to be working for you, but I’m curious if the extra power would be useful. The DAC specifications say that the unit can be powered entirely from a PC when plugged in via USB (no power adapter necessary). That may not work with the USB 2.0 cable, but you can test it out.
Thank you for your response. I have the DAC connected via the AC/DC input for power as well. I haven’t had an issue with data transfer as I use Tidal and the bitrate for HiFi and MQA have been equal regardless of the cable, USB 2.0 handles it just fine. I was more questioning if anyone knew the technical reasoning for the variation in the cable. In the end it works either way, and that’s all the matters
They use a USB 3.0 B cable socket but their manual indicates the product is USB 2.0 compatible. I read this as including a future proof 3.0 connector but not doing anything with it. Furthermore, audio playback data speeds are very low relative to the potential of USB 2.0 (480 Mbps). Tidal HiFi streams at 1.411 Mbps.
I have the ZenDAC V1 and bought a longer aftermarket USB 3.0 cable. I now regret this, as it doesn’t work with anything else and sits in a drawer.
All in all, the ZenDAC appears to have been designed with future proof connectors all around. I was initially disappointed in its lack of XLR3 balanced out until I bought a 4.4mm to XLR3 adapter. It’s downright huge and requires as much space as the entire ZenDAC.
Usb 3 cables have additional wires which means additional pins to connect them.
For Usb-a the extra pins fit in the same size connector (you can spot them if you look closely).
For Usb-b there is no room in the original opening so an additional opening was added for the extra pins. There’s nothing special or unique about the iFi connector - that’s the standard Usb 3 type B connector.
Usb 2 has enough bandwidth for digital audio so the extra capacity of Usb 3 is not needed.
Usb 3.0 can carry more power than Usb 2.0 but most portable dacs can be powered bu Usb 2. You could check the manual to see if your model can only be powered via Usb 3.
Correcto all around @generic!
How do the 64 audio U12t sound off a variety of daps or even an iPhone? They seem easy to drive but that doesn’t always mean it’s best off a phone or most daps. Any suggestions?

Hi! I’m very new to the audio world. I want to pick up my first pair of audiophile Quality headphones. I listen to: rock, alt rock, pop, rap, heavy metal, pop rock, rap rock and maybe abit of hip hop. Also i play tactical fps games so imaging is important. Would have an Asgard 3 and a modi 3+. I’m totally fine eqing. I haven’t tried out much equipment. Tried out the meze 99 classics. They didn’t sound great sound stage felt very narrow. Have teid the 560s and 660s both sounded pretty good but abit more bass on the 660s would have been nice. Budget is $300-400. Not very weight sensitive (demoed the lcd2c and weight wasn’t a issue) Also today I tried out the lcd2 and they sounded amazing! The bass was fantastic! Here are some songs I listen to so you get a better idea: Run to hills by iron maiden: Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills (Official Video) - YouTube
Tear in my heart by twenty one pilots: twenty one pilots: Tear In My Heart [OFFICIAL VIDEO] - YouTube
Levitate also by twenty one pilots: twenty one pilots - Levitate (Official Video) - YouTube
Natural by imagine dragons Imagine Dragons - Natural (Lyrics) - YouTube
Rescue me by One Republic: OneRepublic - Rescue Me - YouTube

Welcome, @Bobthebuilder! Sounds like you’re a bit a bass lover, maybe? Were the LCD-2’s the closed or open versions? I prefer neutral myself, so I’m probably not the guy to help you (plus, I don’t have the stable of headphones that several other users here have). A couple questions to help out the others who chime in here would be budget and weight considerations (if you liked the LCD-2’s, you might not be as sensitive to weight as some though, because Audeze headphones are some of the heaviest cans out there). Good luck!
They were the open back versions. I didn’t use them for that long (maybe 7-10 mins maybe abit longer) have a pretty big melon so they fit me nicely. I play the drums so bit of a bass head not a full on bass head but to love some good bass
