Look like you don’t got the big head or ear down issues, haha. They are pretty good. Enjoy!
They would be very comfortable if they had longer headband extensions. The thickness and comfort of the earpads are great. The finicky fit is an issue.
I felt the Cayin N6ii did decently at powering the HEDDPHONE with the A01 module…with a Pentacon balanced cable for a lil extra oomph!
But yes extra power is needed to fill them out proper
Haha yeah that maybe in regards to the spell check.
Auto correct can be deadly and separate that mass…drop.
Anyway, that is an excellent portable rig and I didn’t recognize the DAP cause of that nice case you got for the N6ii. I use the AK JR paired with the now the extinct Cypher Labs Algorithm Trio tube amp and although it is a lovely set up it wouldn’t stand a chance driving the Heddphone.
I’m working on getting the KANN Cube at some point cause I know that can have a pretty good shot at driving just about any headphone.
Enjoy the experience.
You’re welcome. I’ll wait and see if others will post more photos as the new shipment gets into new owners’ hands in the coming days and if not, I’ll try to fill the void as best as I can.
If I were to guess, I would think the ear down factor is more critical than the big/wide head, although they both kind of play off on each other. Whether it is lucky or not, as it means there is less volume available up there for that important part in your head😄, I have neither a wide head nor a low down ear position. So I have no issues at all with the fit but I can see that some definitely will. But I think HEDD Audio is working on addressing that.
Yeah, I have the A01 module too. It has a lovely, musical sound to it. Unfortunately, the adaptor that I am having made to fit the LCD/HEDDphone connector to connect to my balanced cable is not ready yet so I am only able to listen with the single ended stock cable for now.
I couldn’t listen to it at high volume because it was bed time and my wife was not impressed that I was neglecting her so I didn’t want her to know that I still had them on as we went to sleep. But I realised that at low volume, these headphones still sound pretty good. This kind of reminds me of that same realisation with the HD800 many years ago. That was my take away from that sneaky moment.
But I totally agree with you, some more power definitely fills in and improves the overall sound, especially on the low end. I’d say it’s biggest impact is not so much on the volume but in really cleaning up the sound throughout the FR and more so in the lower end.
I should agree on this one (ear down). I notice that with other cans also but MORE so with the HEDDphone. You got the headphone head, haha, and that is what one could want. I would be interesting in getting the future versions of HEDDphone once they fix the yokes issue and once I start using more than one headphone.
I had to wait and wait and wait some more to reply to you because I had to wait for someone to reply to my third consecutive message. I just learned that there is a ‘three consecutive replies’ limit, which makes sense. So I hope someone replies soon because this took me a while to type out the message below on my phone.
Now that you mention it, I am interested in finding a portable tube amp that can sufficiently power most of my headphones, the HEDDphone in particular. I’m going to call the HEDDphone, “Hp” from now on. Let’s see if that catches on.. I was considering the ALO Continental Dual but I’m not sure if it will have enough juice. The reason for this search is because of the comments that the Hp pairs well with tubes.
Well, if you go for the KANN Cube, it will be in proportion with the Hp. That might do the trick and I think a used one can be picked up for a good discount.
I think a big part of the reason for the lack of vertical reach is due to the headband being fairly straight/mostly horizontal. I don’t know what the headband is made with under the cover but if it were a bendable metal/material, I wouldn’t be surprised if that would instantly fix the vertical reach issue that some are experiencing if the headband could bend a little at the apex/centre. Luckily, I don’t need to do that since I can actually even shorten the yokes at least three notches, which I have just done. When I do that, the cups actually do not ride vertically up the ears. I only notice increased the clamp force and only towards the top part of the cups. I’m not sure if I am describing it correctly or understandably but this is my experience when shortening the yokes three notches each.
I just started to play around with it a little more and shortened it all the way to no additional notches. When I do this, I notice a little bit of riding up the ear to the point that I do not like it this way. So just now, I added two notches and it improved the feeling at the bottom of the ear/lobe. I’m going to try leaving the yokes extended at this level and see how it affects my comfort. I’ve had the Hp on now for about an hour.
And I forgot to ask you if you have tried the Hp with different amps. I just went from the Ragnarok to the Pro iCAN, using the same dac/source and I notice the sound opening a little (with the setting on ss, not Tube or Tube+ as I want to do the changes gradually one variable at a time), which is the only or main thing that I aim to improve with the Hp.
More first impressions to come…
Thanks for the response @Rayzilla and @John_William. I appreciate your time and effort.
Just heard from someone that they will have a fix to that by April or something. Don’t depend as it is just a rumor or something I heard from someone.
I just tried them with low/mid-tier amps like BasX and iFi Micro. I did notice the bass increase after some hours of use. For this price, it is a very good headphone. It’s got pretty good soundstage too but my amps won’t do complete justice.
Has anyone heard any updates on the next batch of preorder fulfillments?
I got to listen the HEDDphone at CanJam off a Hugo TT2 and the SPL Phonitor X. It was pretty average on the Hugo, but really came to life on the SPL. The treble accuracy really stood out to me. I’m not saying it’s better, but I much preferred the HEDDphone to the Utopia. It’s heavy, but the padding is great, and I had no issues with the headband size. It’s a great headphone imo.
I was there, unfortunately was not able to audition them on the Phonitor X, but only on the Hugo and I was blow away and like them more than the Utopia as well. I did listen to the Utopia through the Phonitor X.
For the first day of the show (or at least the first half) the dip switches on the Phonitor were turned off so opinions on the HEDDphone with Phonitor X combination are a little mixed since some people listened when they were pretty underpowered.
I am looking for some impressions of the HEDDphone with the Pro iDSD stack. I think it would perform pretty well with that stack and the iFi booth was pretty busy at the show so I’m hoping a few people got to try it out.
Not a personal impression, but I know two people that said it was best on that stack.
Out of all my amps, I enjoy the Hp most with the Pro iCAN but I do not have the Pro iDSD.
I am curious to hear about others’ experiences with various amp pairing combinations.
I have two DACs, Line Magnetic LM 502CAand Schiit Gumby. Since I am still waiting for my balanced cable to be made, I have mainly been using the LM as I enjoy the ‘tube’ option on it.
From my experiences, the Hp is very responsive to amp pairings compared to just about all of my other headphones. In other words, I notice the most change going from amp to amp with Hp versus my any of my other headphones.
Another thing, the Hp can really be adjusted in many ways but it is so solidly constructed that you have to intentionally and directly apply the pressure in the various ways to accomplish those adjustments. It’s not a loosely manoeuvrable headphone where you plop it on and it adjusts to your head, you need to make the changes to your liking. I’m not sure if you can understand this unless you are fidgeting with one on to know what I mean.
If you want more bass, and this is likely true with most headphones, you do not want a tight seal with the Hp. Try using the tips of your fingers around the Hp cups, being careful not to block the face of the cups, which will turn them into a ‘closed’ headphone and achieve the opposite, and pull the cups outward so that they are just barely touching your head/cheeks. You should notice the bass emphasis and also the ‘sound stage’ increase/widen.
There’s other adjustments that I found to like or not like but I need to get back to some work first.
And there should be some more first impressions coming in from those CanJammers. Let’s hear them!
Followed your steps and preordered mine from HK dealer. Probably you are the first one owned HEDDphone in HK.
Wise decision!
Yeah, it feels kind of cool to be (probably) the first owner of this headphone in Hong Kong. And to go even further, one of the first 30 or so in the world? Neat!
So you actually got to hear it before you plopped your hard earned cash down? Hehe. Based on the many consistent reviews and first impressions here, I felt that it wasn’t a big risk buying them unheard and I was right. I’m just discovering it’s sound more and more each day. Whether it’s burn-in or brain-in, my findings are very similar to those posted by the more experienced listeners above. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts as you hear them for the first one, twenty, fifty, and one hundred hours.
I didn’t ask Lego what, “2H Corner Audio” means or stands for, but I’ll have to make a visit back to that shop again to check out the HEDD speakers that they have there. I couldn’t stay long when I went to pick up my Hp but those HEDD Type 20 look really nice. Maybe we can meet up there some time later and chat about headphones.
