HEDD Audio HEDDphone - Official Thread

Yes, thanks to Lego, I did have the chance to listen to it and compared to my HE6SE.
You are brave, I heard from Lego you buy it without testing. Usually new headphone get hyped easily. And yes, I think they live up with it.
Let Lego inform me when u go to his place
Now, I will be waiting…

What was feeding the Phonitor X?

The Hugo TT2 needs to be in its high-gain mode to do a proper job with the HEDDphone, and by default it won’t be.

The HEDDphone is sufficiently resolving that you can tell the Pro iCAN from the Phonitor X pretty readily (you can with other headphones too, though it’s easier with dynamic cans). If the Pro iDSD is in the mix, either feeding the Pro iCAN, or using it’s direct outputs, then how the Pro iDSD is setup is rather important as, again, the HEDDphone makes it relatively easy to hear the difference between settings.

This is one of the reasons I find impressions from shows to be relatively worthless (beyond simple “worth investigating further or not”). Far too many uncontrolled variables, with the person listening typically having no clue how the thing is setup nor, usually, even what the potential options are.

It is at times like this, that I wish I could just post the ROFL  emoji

Seriously, people need to account for this problem when reading or watching any reviews of gear from a show floor or noisy room full of people while trying to hear gear…

Headband Extended

Here is a quote from an email that I received from the manufacturer concerning the HeddPhone headband:

"We have learned, that for approximately 10% of our customers, the headband is indeed a bit short. We have adjusted the headband and added another roughly 1cm per side. This should work for the bigger heads as well. Every person, that orders a HEDDphone now will receive the new headband already. "

This made me chuckle.

So, now they just need to make it clear whether this will be available to existing owners or not.

And if so, how to get it.

There will be a fix coming for existing owners as well. More details will be coming down the pipeline soon!

I’ll be going to visit Lego again when the cable that we both just ordered comes in.

The cable that I am waiting to be made for me will take another couple of weeks, so I ordered one of these low priced ones, although on the heavy side from Amazon:

I picked one up for Lego too so I’ll be going by his studio to drop it off for him when it gets delivered. We could all meet up then maybe.

For everyone else, I’ll let you all know how this cable works out. :crossed_fingers:

Hi, I am a question about Heddphone.

I owned Beyer’s T1 2nd and Focal clear.

Now I have plan to change Focal Utopia

because Utopia has more depth of sound against mines

Do someone compare Hedd vs Utopia about depth(like density).

PS. Eng isn’t my mother tongue.

I hope that you fully understand my question.

Thx.

Thx mate.

But I mean that density not staging

I think that old totl headphones have thin sound like HD800, T1 etc, I listened.

But nowdays many new totl headphones(Focal and LCD series) have much thicker than before.

I keep finding headphone like T1’s staging + Utopia’s density(thickness).

I had been listened lcd 2, lcd x that my friend owned during 2 weeks.

LCD series isn’t my target, that sound is so tough. and their weight is too heavy to keep listening.

Thanks @taronlissimore for this update. It’s good to know that they take care of their customers. My dealer said the same thing about their customer focused approach before I I made my decision, which added to my confidence in pre-ordering without having seen or heard it myself first.

If you guys get the chance and like Torq says, you really need to try the Hp with various amps that are different from each other. I have never experienced such difference in sound from any headphone when changing between my amps the way I am experiencing with the Hp.

With other headphones I would notice very small changes or some change when moving between my solid state amps but I am finding that it is more noticeable with the Hp.

And now for my latest update. I am now listening with it on my Decware Mini Torii MkII, which has been collecting a lot of dust because it wasn’t getting me the desired changes when I paired it with some of my other headphones. As mentioned before, I am trying to get more sound stage out of the Hp and I found that I was starting to get a little more of that when I went to the double tube option on the Pro iCAN. Oh my… Whether it means that I am adding more distortion to what I am hearing or whatever those purists guys always push, I don’t care because it is starting to really get me closer to the sound that I am after. The problem is that I am not very experienced with the various adjustment knobs on this interesting tube amp. I’m not a techie kind of guy to start with, so I very little understanding the various knobs and switches on this amp. If any of you guys are familiar with this amp and want to explain expected changes from each of the switches and knobs on this amp, I would appreciate it.

The only thing that is holding me back from being completely convinced is that I have been listening only to The Pet Shop Boys today. They tend to sound very good with many set ups, so I will have to try this amp with some more challenging music later because I am enjoying this a little too much right now.

Love the Pet Shop Boys. I have a few of their original CD recordings and although the remasters aren’t bad the originals are still my favourite. Needless to say, albums like “Actually (1987) , Please (1984) and Introspective (1988) are amazing electronic albums to audition any kind of headphone gear with. Recorded very nicely with a ton of DNR.

That one was a little too bright in the background. Let’s see if this one is any better:

I know right? When my good friend reminded me about PSB, all I remember were their main hits that I heard while at the clubs in my younger days. So I only started getting up to date with some of their more recent albums like the ones that you mentioned and then remasters and remixes of some of their older stuff too. I could listen to these guys all day and all night, as I have been doing. lol

Let me know if you have any other suggestions of music similar to PSB.

Fantastic MR. Ray. :slightly_smiling_face:
Yeah I think PSB recordings can really shine a big fat light on your equipment. Good truth sayers if you will.
As for PSB similarities (but not the same) would be another great electronic duo “The Orb.” The Orb are more masters of Dub, but their early 90’s work is really exceptional. I would recommend the 1993 album “U.F.O”. Check out the 15min track “the towers of dub.” This is a sensational track to test mid and sub bass. I think the Heddphone would have a field day with this track.
Another bands you can look at that are very electronic, poppy and experimental are early Duran Duran (1980’s) and the new kids on the scene “Grimes.”

Hope this ends up to your liking.

I gave “The Orb” a try. Maybe I need to give them more time or play it more as a background to work music but it didn’t have me tapping my feet the way that PSB and Depeche Mode does. If I were a science fiction or science’y kind, I think I would like it.

Duran Duran, they have some pretty good music and I always liked them. If I recall correctly, most guys back in the day were afraid to admit it because the general thinking was that they were a ‘girls band’. I didn’t care, I wasn’t afraid to admit and I think they were one of my first concerts. They were opening for David Bowie, so that made a great one-two punch.

Grimes, now that is an interesting one. Nice beats then when I got to the third song on the YouTube playlist for Grimes, I said, “hey… I’ve heard this one before!” The name of that track is “Genisis”. Not long ago, I was listening to a lot of DJ Mixes and that is where I heard it. It was mixed in with other music, so I never know who the artists are or what the names of the tracks are. Another one that I discovered when listening to these mixes was “Flume”. Check out the track, “You and Me”. It’s a pretty cool track. Here’s a link to the remix version:

And here is a fun take on his song:

Actually when I listened to The Orb earlier, I was only on my desktop speakers. I’m going to give them another try with the Hp. I’ll report back later…

Ok, a couple of hours later and I still haven’t gotten back to The Orb yet. Flume brought me to Rufus Du Sol and then back to Grimes again. I really enjoyed and got to see how talented she is. And found out that she is a Canadian! Watch it right to the very end. She even acts so pleasant and humble, like many Canadians do, even though she is so talented. Refreshing. This was a pretty cool little live performance from her:
