HEDD Audio HEDDphone - Official Thread

The ZMF Verite opens/closeds Aeolus, and my RAAL SR1a basically have me not really caring about my other headphones all that much…outside of niche special use case headphones like “portable/gaming/unique/etc”

I still have too many DACs, amps, DAPs, and headphones than I really need though so I’ll be putting a couple of things on the FS thread soon =)

I’m actually very intrigued by these HEDDphones though!

Impressions? That was more content than pretty much any full review I’ve seen/read. Good work. Thanks!

They look like they’d be uncomfortable to fall asleep in.

Stellar review as always @resolve. I appreciate you getting these “First Impression” videos out to inform people looking to make pre-order decisions.

I feel the same “discomfort” with my Verite Closed, the cups are just too big and “out of the head” for you to even relax on a recliner. If I sit on my recliner while wearing them, I literally can’t turn my head sideways…

I figure the more you wear them the stronger your neck will get. It can’t be any worse then my 1266 and the wait on those goes to the center of your head as they don’t clamp on the sides.

Jude just posted his initial measurements from the pre-production unit he had https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hedd-announces-heddphone-with-amt-technology.906270/page-32#post-15401460

For those curious what the relative inefficiency of the HEDDphone means in terms of what they’re going to take to drive properly, here are their power requirements by SPL:

That’s a pretty power-hungry set of cans; in context with some other notably power-loving/requiring headphones:

I saw that THD and thought “that looks like what I got from my imperfect measuring environment”, and sure enough Jude even added the same caveat for his. My guess is that the lower frequency THD is actually a lot better than the results show so far.

Normally I wait until I’ve had my ears on a piece of gear, headphones especially, to actually purchase, and I can count the number of pre-orders for audio gear I’ve done on the fingers of one hand (over a 30+ year span) …

I did join the pre-order for the HEDDphone, however.

Very intrigued to see how these stack up both against comparably priced models, and my litany of flagship and specialty headphones.

Please post your comparisons when you receive them! I’m eagerly awaiting reviews in hopes it’s disruptive in the TOTL space. If they are legit, it’s going to save me enough money to get some IEMs or something lol

Thanks for the first impressions. They are well done and much appreciated.

I am curious as to how leaky these are. My assumption is very, like Utopia level leakage but perhaps still nowhere near as much as the SR1a.

Yeah these are completely open, similar to the Utopia.

Torq didn’t you also get a demo unit?
And in the (very off) chance that you’re not completely into the sound, reselling should be simple as pie.

I think I heard there are only 20 units going out - anyone know when the next batch could be?

I was out of the country (got back early yesterday) when the headphones.com demo unit became available, so it went to @Resolve first.

If it doesn’t hit the spot, it’ll just get returned (courtesy of headphones.com’s amazing return policy), though I doubt that’ll be an issue absent it not fitting or something being obviously faulty.

Yeah the weight is the only thing I can see turning people off - unless of course someone wants a bass cannon, which the HEDDphone thankfully is not. Just clean, tight, and well-extended bass, even if it sits a few dB lower than the Harman elevation for most of it.
