Hifiman HE6Se V2

I’m 67, and in meh health, with limited funds, and I just found my endgame speakers - BMR Philharmonic Monitors - so I’m actually out on both of those cans while I can play my speakers whenever. If we move I may go back to cans - meanwhile my HD-600, HE-6 SE, and HE-500 are boxed up and not due to be used anytime soon…

yup the BMRs should do that to you. enjoy your media on them

I have a defective pad on my HE6se V2. I need either replacement pads (stock) or I need a really great set of replacement pads that don’t alter the original sound too much. Does anyone have any suggestions on what or where to buy? (or want to sell me) I’ve checked Hifiman’s site and it doesn’t appear they have anything specific. I also checked Dekoni and they have about 4 different options. But I’d really prefer the original stock pads.

This guys explains the differences between the pads.

Yeah I saw that too. They look similar to the PaliPad but mine aren’t angled. You may have to contact Hifiman.

Since I have my own squiglink now, I wanted to share my measurements I posted before in a better way than just a screenshot. Link

I’ve got Pass Aleph Mini and headphones do sound better than before.
So current chain is pc>modi2u>magni2u (volume control)>Aleph Mini>he6sev2 (connected via diy adapter).
I would like to make a few tweaks, hence the questions:

  1. Is dac in Wiim Ultra better than Modi2u? I need a streamer.
  2. I don’t want to use Magni2u anymore. I’m torn between getting a cheap passive preamp or buying TA-26 that is sold locally. Would a tube amp be a good fit as a preamp? The guy that is selling it offered me to try it for a few days.
  3. I have a speaker tap cable, but I’ve measured dc offset of 110mv on the left and 40mv on the right channel. According to amp specs, it should be under 100. Do you think it’s safe to try it out?

Have there been any B&K 5128 or 4128 measurements of the HE6SE V2 yet? I’m curious to see how the upper treble compares to other hifiman models when measured on a rig that’s a bit more accurate up there.

I’m curious to see this as well. In the EU I can get the HE6SE V2 for 400 Euros while something like the Audeze MM-500 is 1700 Euros. If I’m willing to EQ and I have a very powerful amp will there be a meaningful difference in sound quality between these two headphones?

Wow, it looks like both the Dekoni and AliExpress pads clean up the typical HiFiman dip while cutting some of the energy at the peak of ear gain region. Looks like a solid upgrade.

I picked up the fenestrated ZMF pads lightly used… Really like this combination.

I’ve spent the last several week tube rolling 18 different tubes into the Schiit Mjolnir 2 with the HE6SE v1.

In theory, the Mj2 should have enough grunt to drive the HE6SE. And it does get plenty loud.

But ultimately I preferred using the speaker outs of my Luxman L-590AXII (Class A, 60W into 4 ohms). I didn’t use the adapter, just straight banana plug to XLR cable.

The main difference was in dynamics and amount of bass at low volume. It was just a little more impactful, and a little smoother (except compared to the smoothest tubes in the MJ2) without losing detail.

At this point, not even sure I need a headphone amp anymore given my other cans are 300 ohms.
