HiFiMan Susvara Over-Ear Planar Headphone - Official Thread

How does it compare to the Formula S Powerman combo which is another grand more.

both great, IMHO if you have the abyss then either are wonderful…if you have the susvara I think the bakoon is probably the better bet…if space and aesthetics are important go with the bakoon…also the bakoon has a remote

For those of you who have experience with both Utopia and Susvara, which one has the larger ear pad opening?
Thanks.

Stellia vs Susvara. I could be wrong but I think most Focal earpads are similar in size?

That looks reasonable. The Utopia was just a bit too tight for long listening periods but I did like the sound.
HD800/S, and 1266 Phi spoiled me for ear room…
SR1a is my favorite and slays all others for comfort, LOL!.
But I like some variety and a change of pace now and then and a phone that does justice to orchestra recordings.
Thanks.

Between the WA33, FormulaS/Powerman, and HPA4 which amp will give the most open sound stage for the Susvara?

Lately have been thinking about Bakoon as it can also drive efficient speakers and has a small, compact form factor without the hastle of tubes. Is also much less expensive than the WA33. The FormulaS/Powerman is another front runner but a much larger set of electronics than the Bakoon. In one review it was mentioned that the Bakoon is the closest SS amp to tubes you can get for sound stage. Anyone happy with their Bakoon and Susvara???

It’s been in the works for a very long time, finally just released. Looks like the perfect Susvara amp to me.

Maybe I“m missing something but the specs of the VOLOT are almost identical to those of the FA-10 making the latter a much better value proposition, has someone been able to listen to the Susvara with an FA-10?

This was taken from another forum.

Ā« Hello Vitaliy, I’m wondering about Volot : the specs of the Volot claims same watt and voltage than fa10, but the specs also said that the quiescent current value is 2.5x times higher than fa10 but we know that power = U x I, so if I understand well does it mean that Volot provide more current to headphones but then less voltage ? I only have hifiman planar headphones (and fcn10) and they love current, second question: what would bring the Volot compared to fa10 / fcn10? Thank you! Ā»

Ā« Hello Christophe. Thank you so much for your questions. An important amendment, the Volot provides 2.5 times the quiescent current, and not the maximum output current. This provides lower distortion and the amplifier works in a deeper class A. The main advantage of Volot is that it immerses it deeper into music due to great nuances at all range. The difference in sound from the 10th is provided not only by increasing the current, there are a lot of nuances: board topology, separate channel power supply, element base. Ā»

This is yet another example that specs and power ratings are only a small piece of the puzzle. Obviously just by looking at the internals of the two amps, they are very different amps even though the specs look identical.

I didn’t have the Sus and FA-10 at the same time but I would think the FA-10 would do a respectable job. I would think the Volot would do a better job though no one knows for sure yet since nobody has received the Volot afaik.

I just watched a link to a comparison U-Tube review of Resolve’s (I think its the same individual), comparing the Utopia to the Susvara at (I hope its not forbidden to say) Head-fi. Excellent. I owned the Utopia for almost 3 years but eventually the tight fit on my ears (my ears are large to collect more sound :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)and clamping and the thought that it was not at its best with my primary genre, full scale orchestral, had me sell it to someone whose listening tastes are not like mine and he’s been loving it for about a year now. Resolve’s take on the Utopia matched up well with my own. And if one of you doesn’t pull my name outta’ the hat next week for the Susvara I’m still going to get an audition and I think based on Resolve’s comments, the Susvara’s overall sound presentation should meet my desires in my primary genre.

If there’s one genre I find the Susvara particularly lacking in (and I think they are a bit genre-limited for my tastes anyway), it’s full-scale/large-scale complex orchestral pieces.

I suspect that if you didn’t like the Utopia with such works, you’re going to find the Susvara to be a somewhat confused/wall-of-sound mess there.

Dam what did I hit, deleted my own post, LOL!
I think I was mentioning that I’d better audition the Susvara carefully and that with the number of phones I’ve owned/own I still find the Senn HD800/HD800S (I have both) gives the best all round with my Mahler, etc.
I’ll try not to delete this post.

Restored it for you.

Any idea what chain you’ll be auditioning the Susvara with?
