HiFiMan Susvara Over-Ear Planar Headphone - Official Thread

Trying to understand the differences here and Electrostatic which is all new to me.
Thanks for the reply and now I have a clear view as to what is what.

This is where I got confused between the voltage and what others are doing.

Thanks again.

I’ve held off on getting Susvara because just not sure Mytek Brooklyn Bridge amp’s run balanced with my SBOOSTER power supply with deliver enough power to it. I rarely ever go above 85dbl for listening as measured with a meter. I just don’t know what to believe: whether it’ll be weak on my Bridge or whether they listen at a louder volume that it demands all this power, while I’m younger and still have most of my hearing.

Well I am confused about this…

But I got my custom cable for my sundara in but it feels as if it does not fit.

See picture for reference of what fits and does not.

The copper is from my edition x and work fine.
The silver is my new custom cable for the susvara as my old is not balanced.

The new cable feels as if the tip won’t go in. As if it needs more force than the copper.

Any ideas?

Is this normal? Do I just force it?

I just try to force, that’s a no go. They are different for sure. My caliper resister an over all 2.5mm OD BUT at the tip it register 2.29 on the silver and 2.25 on the copper. This is true for both the Susvara cable and the copper cable. (Minuscule difference on the tip but is making a difference.)

This is crazy many people use this connector with their Susvaras. Why is mine different? Is this a ā€œhiddenā€ revision thing? @angstorms @Resolve @BondDaBoom you guys ran in to this issue?

@Torq am I going crazy? LOL

Don’t force things haha. I’m not sure what’s going on there. Is that the termination? Or the connector side. I thought the connectors were 3.5mm no?

Yeah, I did some research and I thought they were 3.5mm as well…just like Focal cables…but I think a revision happened around 2018 so maybe earlier models had different sizes? Don’t quote me just saw one reference to this and I’m not familiar with HiFiMan enough to make any ā€œfactualā€ statements;)

@Resolve well… It was not a hard force LOL :stuck_out_tongue:
Here is the vid of me trying and sending it to the cable maker as they were puzzled as everybody else.

@TylersEclectic No they are not, They are 2.5mm. Confirmed with HiFiMan, They are claims that there is 3.5 but this is not true for the Susvrara line (to my understanding)
The 3.5mm was a change for the tree line in models, That was not applied to the Susvara.

@Resolve Is the connector to the cup.
Mine is different for sure as others can use this type of connector and I cant.

There’s something weird going on with your connector, it might be out of tolerance or the Susvara input might be the culprit. When the lockdown is over, we may try some of my cables with your Sus and your problematic cable with my Sus.

@MrCypruz I am down with that.
I am sure is the susvara, I try other cables with the same connector that I own and is a no go. :frowning:

They are 2.5 mm connector on the susvara. The HE-1000SE has 3.5 mm connector like all the new Hifiman do.

On cables, I was a material scientist so I will not buy cable over $ 70. I do not want argue about electron mobility impedance and capacitance of cable this short. If they had A Room temperature superconducting material it might be fun but it be for the novelty of it. That was hot topic when I was doing research

@DEXCOM7, yes I run these eidolics on my Susvara. Slightly snugger than stock but locks in real nice, no force required.

@angstorms I am with you. I go for looks, and tbh Impact Audio cables does not sell with promises of dynamic changes, etc… Is just pure looks to me. While the hifiman cable ā€œis good enoughā€ I really and I mean it, I really hate the length and feel.

@55Powers Thanks for your reply and confirmation.

The question now remains… Do I contact HiFiMan because I have a tolerance issue?

Here are the cables I went with for the Susvera. I like the weight. My favorite sleave on cable and size is Ronson Audio. It is a hard sheath so if you rub your nails on them they transmit sound, but they are light. I really do not like heavy cables. But they work great.

NewFantasia HiFi Cable 4-pin XLR Balanced Male Compatible with Hifiman HE400S, HE-400I, HE-400i(2.5mm Plug Version), HE560, HE1000 Headphone Silver Plated Replacement Audio Upgrade Cable. $45 Dollars on Amazon. It what I am listening to now on SPL Phonitor x. I needed these cables for the Headamp GS-X mini.
NewFantasia Silver Plated Replacement Cable with Dual 2.5mm Male to 3.5mm 1/8" Male and 6.3mm 1/4" Adapter Compatible with HE400S, HE-400I, HE-400i(2.5mm Plug Version), HE560, HE1000 Headphone. $43 dollars on Amazon What I use on the Zmf Pendant and normally with the SPL Phonitor x

I would have been happy if they had the newer 3.5 mm cables since I already have a few of them.

That Topping A90 does look interesting. I’ll be keen to see some reviews of that.

Anyone using the Susvara with Bakoon AMP-13R?

Not I said the duck. But I seen people use it and be super impress by it and the other hand be very un pleased with the fact that they spent 6k on the amp and is boring asf. I was interested at one point but tbh at 6k I’ll stick with my iCan pro for now

the bakoon has gotten some incredible reviews…real powerhouse in a tiny package…supposedly great match with susvara

As mentioned elsewhere, it looks like there has been a refresh and the latest revision now comes with 3.5mm connectors.

Has this been confirmed by HifiMan or any user? I’ve not seen anywhere a Susvara with 3.5mm connectors.
