TBH, I can’t even remember where I got it lol. It’s been a while.
Yeah, that’s pretty important. Gotta be worth the trouble.
I need to look up the Zen. Can’t remember which one that is.

Dunu Zen. $700. But it may have lost it’s crown to the Drop Ether CX. I can’t seem to put them down. And I don’t know WHY.
@Torq Is there a thread for understand why your brain wants certain things? Cause I have questions.
Does anyone on here know where I could find an MMCX cable that would be compatible with the IE300?
Preferably braded with a mic?
Skip the mic requirement and get the qudelix 5k (has a mic). Clip qudelix to shirt collar, instant phone friendly headphones. Not sure what cables are compatible with the ie300 but in theory any one you want on amazon should be fine. If you do go qudelix, get a 2.5 mm to maximize power (ie300 probably won’t benefit much from it).
Best part is, if you go cable crazy later, you can just get any cable you want. Hart audio cables, some crazy dunu blanche or a custom. And mic still works.
Lol appreciate the recommendation. This is more a question that my brother has though, as he was really impressed by the IE300 and wants to get a pair, but wants a braded cable with a mic.
On that topic, I threw together a rough idea of the dimensions on the stock cable connector.
If anyone knows a cable that fits these dimensions, please let me know.
Note: this is a very rough/loose idea. I don’t have the proper tools to measure things this tiny so I got it as best I could.
MMCX is a standard. Any mmcx cable should work. However, some manufacturers offset their plug creating a recession or a protrusion that will basically require you to use their cables. Zeos was a bit worried about this on the ie300. But he didn’t grab another mmcx to validate it on the video.
Again, amazon. There are 3.5mm mmcx cables with mics. I think tripowin is one brand. Buy it. I think they are all prime around $20-30. Try it. If it sucks, send it back.
And, still, qudelix 5k is still a more future proofed solution.
Here is one I think: https://www.amazon.com/Linsoul-TRIPOWIN-Earphone-Replacement-Connector/dp/B08N4K3P59/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=mmcx+mic&qid=1619619808&sr=8-6
I gotcha. That sounds like a good idea.
I’ll update my impressions/review with what works and what doesn’t.
What is the best $3000 IEM out there? Assuming you only have one IEM, not multiple to satisfy different genres.
Does the U12T still take the cake, even though only $1999?
I like the idea of having a DD for the bass, as good as the U12T BA bass is.
Also only options I can get in custom form. Currently U12T is leading for me, but so far I’ve only tried U12T and Mest Mk2.
If you can find a favorite pair of IEMs and stay a grand under budget, have at it!
I’d also say that while it’s essential for us to be clear about what our budgets are, it’s also important to be honest with ourselves about what sounds best for us given our preferences. Part of that might have to do with the law of diminishing returns. The Andromeda 2020 are at that “inflection point” for me. That doesn’t mean I’m not keen to hear pricier IEMs…
To answer your question, some IEMs on my radar besides the U12T are the Campfire Audio Ara, Empire Ears Legend X, MEST, Elysium, QDC Anole VX, Vision Ears V8, Hidition Viento, and JH Audio Jolene. I’m probably missing a few others!
It’s the Odin for me. Though I do like listening to my other ones too. If I could only have one it would be the Odin.
It may not be an exciting enough listen for some if your preference is V shaped. But for me it ticks all the boxes.
Don’t forget though this is my subjective opinion. What is the “Best” of something is an impossible question. But this is my personal take on it.
Maybe try the Nio? 8BA 1DD, though not sure if there’s an option to get a custom fit version of it.
Nonsense. Tell me the answer damnit! Odin does get high praise.
@deafenears No custom on the Nio! Otherwise I would.
Anyone know somewhere that makes foam tips smaller than anything Comply offers?
Just updated my impressions on the IE300/B2
I was thinking of taking the entire thing down and re-writing it, but since this is the IEM’s “Discovery” thread, I think it may be interesting/appropriate to document as things happen.
Let me know what you guys think. If you agree and see value in that approach, I’ll keep at it. If not, I’ll do my best to sum everything up in a more traditional review.
I agree, I think it would be interesting to read your current thoughts, especially if you’ve changed your mind on anything.
Oh boy. It’s been an adventure so far.
On the btr5 are you using them bluetooth with low gain?
Yes. Bluetooth (aptx) low gain, lossless files.
This is one of the clear differences between the btr5 and the qudelix for me. I would bet, if you wired it, suddenly low gain vs high gain wouldn’t matter for better sound.
The btr5 over bluetooth had a noticeable noise floor. That floor was completely gone over wired. The qudelix never showed any noise at all.
Also, the btr5 does something different with volume. When wired, it disables the iphone volume on my iphone (may be different on your android phone) and then the btr5 volume can be kept quite low (22-30 out of 60) for my iems. But over bluetooth both volumes act independently. But the btr5 volume has to be boosted quite a bit to get to the same levels coming out of the iems. This is where I would hear noise in the background. Wire it, no noise.
The qudelix volume control is pure genius.
