There’s a lot I’d like to be able to tweak for the HE-1’s asking price. For one, I’d have it figured so that the box for the headphones and the amp structure were symmetrical. Then I’d go with a different color/pattern stone/marble. And different colored controls. After, of course, sorting the DAC out.
I’ve heard rumors of some customization options (with additional premiums), but we’ll see how the talk with Sennheiser goes on that.
Back in Seattle briefly to close out our two remaining properties here.
We’ve done so many hikes/walks/trails, climbs, dives, clubs, museums, parks, concerts, opera, exhibitions, food/wine events, wineries/wine-tastings, restaurants, tours, ski/snow areas and other general attractions (e.g. NYE on the Space Needle, 4th of July on Lake Union etc.) that neither of us can think of any reason to come back to Seattle, or even WA, after this other than “people”.
Friends will, of course, be welcome to visit us in Florida and/or on the boat when we’re in-country.
In the mean-time … a couple of things to re-iterate …
Don’t be surprised when you see me selling off 99% of my existing headphone gear. It’s not a poor reflection on any of those items. Simply the desire for a single headphone system (or a SINGLE primary one, and closed-back and portable options) combined with the call of the HE-1 has proven to be just strong enough to go down that path. It’s just a question of timing now.
I don’t do (never did, unless I felt like it) tech support - so emailing/PM’ing me asking for it probably won’t get a response at all. Been a rash of this lately, so I figured I’d mention it so as those not being responded to don’t take it personally.
No demanding it won’t help. Unless you’ve purchased one of my cables, I’ve never sold you anything audio-related, nor worked for anyone else that has.
I don’t do personal audio-recommendations/comparisons anymore, so again, emailing/PM’ing me asking for those will, at best, get you a response that says “post it on the forum in an appropriate thread, and I may respond there, and other’s certainly will” (so best to just do that in the first place).
PMs/emails for general chat, audio-related or not, are welcome, of course.
And finally I’ll have an exciting (for me, at least), personal audio/site/app related announcement/release in the not very distant future (no, it’s not another headphone forum … this place is perfect for that) - but probably not until we’re done in Seattle.
Still be around on and off, especially while finishing up getting our remaining places here ready to sell.
As someone that never asked you anything non-public, I’m kind of curious if you could share us a number of how many folks try that path, weekly/monthly… Your call. Hopefully that eventually may help you in decreasing those numbers as well.
Across forums/sites, and between PMs/DMs and email, at peak it was probably 20-30 a day. That’s dropped off a fair bit since I started this thread and was less active online in general, but typically still a couple a day.
As of the last week or so it’s spiked a bit, maybe 30 a week.
On one hand, it’s flattering. On the other, it’s gotten to the point where I need an auto-responder (easy for email) in order to avoid appearing rude. I don’t really mind getting the requests, just feel bad that I’m not responding to 99% of them.
Though it still tickles me as to the percentage that are regarding gear I’ve never heard or actively do not like. And of those, the number that in their initial email bring up Reddit or ASR as an endorsement as they ask what I think of something they’ve already bought …
That’s the most annoying. And I’d say over half of the questions I get are people asking me opinions of the gear they already bought or own; pretending at first that they don’t have it or bought it already. And then I feel bad when I give a not recommended take on it and they reveal they bought it already… (why ask if you were going to order it anyway?)
Anyway, we’ll miss you around here, but hope to meet again in the future someday!
If you need to donate any of those extra audiophile gears to lighten that load while traveling, I know a guy.
In March last year I said nothing was going to change due to COVID-19 but the dates. In reality a ton has changed … and in ways I would not have expected, much less predicted.
We’re still doing the world-tour, but the ordering and structure is dramatically altered. We decided to put a big base in Florida, instead of a small one in NYC, and work on 6-month excursions then wintering back in the US. As countries “unlock”, that might change again, but the original plan won’t work when they won’t let you into the country at all (not looking at you, specifically, Canada …).
Really though, the original intent of this thread was to make it clear that I wasn’t doing the “Managing Editor” thing anymore, and that I was going to be much less involved in the “online” side of the “hobby” … which has definitely been the case.
I am glad you kept this thread going and we get to see and hear from you. No BS the amount of knowledge and support you have provided to all of us over the years has been so appreciated. Plus it’s as close as I am ever going to get to witnessing a James Bond audiophile lifestyle
