I'm Sailing Away

I imagine it’s either that, very different preferences for bass levels … or your Odin sound very different to mine.

I’d say its A and B.

I get the driver flex noises with the Spintfit tips, and they sound fuller than some other tips. I think I still like a bit more though.

Nio / U12T with M15 module levels are decent. Nio with M15 maybe 2-3db too much.

I must just need a bit more bass than you, as I listen exclusively to Deelite’s “Groove Is In The Heart” on repeat.

1. It took me a long time to find the name of that song for this joke
2. Took me less time to then figure out how to do the signature Torq footer small text
3. Not sure how he does the line

Three minus signs in a row, on their own line, will give you a line as well.

@BuffaloWing , I think your Odin’s are faulty. I will gladly make the sacrifice to help you out and take them off your hands

It’s been a month, now, since I got my audio gear set up again. In doing that, I deliberately placed my headphone rig such that it is just for dedicated, focused, listening - that is purely sitting back and listening for pleasure while not doing anything else at all.

This means it isn’t conveniently situated to use, without a long cable run (12+ feet), at my main computer nor elsewhere in my cave. So background listening, on headphones, means running my AirPods Max.

The goal was to see if, given having my speaker rig in my cave now, and the new house allowing me to listen to speakers whenever I want (and at proper levels), would I use headphones enough to warrant keeping a high-end headphone setup at all?

So far?

I haven’t listened via headphones for longer than it took to verify everything was working properly and that I did not need to make any power tweaks/changes.

Casual listening has been via the pair of Phantom IIs sitting on my desk. Dedicated listening via my Linn/Michell rig.

So, just to see if it’s a question of convenience or not, or perhaps that combined with the “novelty” of being able to use my properly speakers again, I unboxed my HSA-1b and RME ADI-2 DAC FS R BE, stuck them on the desk and hooked them up to Roon. We’ll see if that has me putting on my headphones again.

If so, then the HE 1 question remains. If not, well … we’ll cross that bridge when we come it …

I know you owned the Fourte for a while, but did you get much of a chance to compare the Fourte to the Trio?

Trio landed today, not bad. It’s no Odin, but at less than half the price, and the right level of Bass, I’m liking them regardless.

I have noticed that I go back and forth between my 2 channel and my headphone setup. I get passionately motivated to do one for about three months, sometimes even longer and then switch it up. Maybe you are long overdue to having your speakers setup with cranking them however you see fit. Taking a long break might reinvigorate your headphone listening again and maybe it will take even up to a year to get that back and ignited.

I still have the tia Fourté … at least until tomorrow morning.

When I bought it, I had just come off doing a review of it, during which I had the Fourté, Trió, U18t and U12t all on hand together.

The Trió has a higher bass level relative to its treble (in reality, its a lower treble output - and probably more appealing to a broader array of listeners)) than the Fourté - which makes it sound like the Trió has more prominent bass. Which it does, for practical purposes. Trió’s tuning is a bit more natural/neutral (tonally correct) than the Fourté as a result. The trade off is that Fourté has better stage and resolution.

It’s possibly the best overall IEM in 64 Audio’s line-up, especially if value is a factor. The U12t is preferred by some, and is a bit more flexible (due to the swappable APEX modules), but for me the use of BA drivers for bass in the U12t has me preferring the Trió over them.

It’s possible.

At the place in Seattle I had about an 8 hour window where I could run them properly every day. This was just the main speaker rig though, and that was not in my den/cave/office, so it was purely for focused “doing nothing else” listening. Couldn’t use them for background listening, so most days I might get a couple of hours in on them a day.

So it’s not that they weren’t getting used at all, just not for most of my listening time and none of my casual/background listening.

It will be interesting to see how things go there. I imagine I’d be more enthused if there were some new flagship models to explore. Or there were really interesting new high-end amps to play with. Or even something intriguing on the source front. But it all seems a bit quiet lately.

I’ve had my LCD-4 and Utopia for 5 years now. I sold my AB-1266 Phi CC, intending to skip the TC (since there was no upgrade available - just buy new), nearly two years ago. No updates there since then. I’ve had the SR1a for two years.

Not that I think flagship churn is a good thing (its one of a handful of reasons I’ve never bothered to buy a Susvara, but even that proved to stick around longer than I’d have guessed). But new stuff tends to be interesting, even if it isn’t necessarily always a step forward. And it’s been a while for the big guys …

What I can say, with certainty, however, is that there’s no way I’ll still have a serious headphone rig a year from now if I haven’t started using it again a lot sooner than that. I can hear it depreciating as I sit and type!

It’s too late now. Everything you own has depreciated to ten cents on the dollar! You must post them for us to buy before they fall to one cent on the dollar! Urgent!

Trio or Fourte is “possibly the best overall IEM” ?

I’m enjoying them so far, give it a few more hours. Don’t have Odin with me at the moment to compare, off with a mate. Have Nio, but no real point comparing. Trio seems sufficiently improved.

The Trió … again, if value is a factor.

It is somewhat. But Fourte isn’t out of question (it’s not Noir or Traililli expensive).

Do you recall the relative bass levels between Odin and Fourte?

The Fourte is intriguing me. I like the Trio, but if Fourte takes it a step further, even if I need to boost bass a hint, I’d be content.

Odin’s bass seemed a little more present, particularly in the sub-bass, but this was mostly a relative thing due to the tia Fourté being a bit more energetic in the treble.

If you want greater relative bass output from the Fourté vs. the Trió you’ll either need to EQ up the bass on the Fourté or EQ down the treble.
