@Resolve Would love to see a review of the FiiO FT5 as it has a similar frequency response to the Tungsten
Measured on what? To be clear, I am interested, I just donāt have a Fiio contact.
Iām really interested in ordering this headphone. I assume my Violectric V281 will do the job based on what I have read:

I placed my order on December 22, 2023 and I expect my Tungsten (SS) to arrive in March.
I will run them on my current setup which is the Gustard A26 DAC which has an output of 5 volts and my amp is the Burson Soloist 3X Performance which has up to 28 volts on high gain.
From everything I have read about the Tungsten, my setup will drive them easily with voltage & current to spare.
I am posting this because I think the Gustard A26 DAC (or Gustard R26) combined with the Burson 3XP offers nice value compared to most other DACs and amps with similar specs. Combined the cost is about $2,500. Both are fantastic! IMO, of course.
Resolve, I really appreciate your commentary and explanations on this very technical shit!!! I learn a lot.
Iv been searching for some time now something with very good punch and slam.
Most threads and reviewers point to LCD-4 and HE-6. In Tungsten review video @Resolve said it to be similarly āintenseā sounding as LCD-4 and HE-6. Does āintenseā mean punch and slam in this case ?
Tungsten DS slams like a truck on my chain, I keep it as a change of pace and flavor to my Susvara (daily driver) and Diana MR (more intimate but still energetic listening)
Which pads are you using on Tungsten and Diana MR? Assuming pad rolling, which are slammier in your opinion
All depends what is meant by those terms - as said in other places Iām trying to move away from that kind of language because it means different things to different people and causes more confusion than it is helpful. Iād ideally like to stick to more common language to describe this stuff.
But yeah I find it more similar to the HE-6 in that regard - not exactly the same but more like that than say the Empyrean or the Susvara.
If was using āaudiophileā, rather than ātechnicalā, language, Iād describe the bass of the Empyrean as copious and rounded/bloomy, and the Susvara simply as ālimp-dickā.
But no one asked me (and Iāve not heard any version of the Tungsten), so Iāll shut up now.
Iām still new to pad rolling MR but the leather ported will probably be the best bet for that. I actually prefer the suede for comfort and a little treble taming.
With Tungsten I have the leather perforated. Havenāt tried anything else.
Those terms are far more descriptive, probably better to use those haha.
What i mean when talking about punch is the physicality of the (mid)bass. For example when talking about drums in the song, besides hearing the drum hit i can feel it also. If that makes any sense at all
Iām glad @Resolve you were able to compare the Tungsten to the HE-6 and Susvara, those are my two references I bounce between. One of the biggest differences I hear between my 4-screw late production HE6 and Susvara is the Susvara is just⦠wider. Bigger. Enough of a difference that itās enough to send me to the Susvara most of the time. Is the Tungsten similar to the HE-6 there?
Would love to drive these with the 3W at 300 Ohm Ragnarok 2.
Yeah for sure, I know what youāre saying - and again to me itās closer to the HE-6 than it is to more typical planars in this regard. Iām not going to say itās a more significant effect than on the HE-6 but it is more reminiscent of that to my ear.
This is exciting! It reminds me of when Dan Clark began designing his own headphones after successfully modifying the Fostex T50RP MK2 for a number of years. Best of luck to Ryan at Modhouse with his new Tungsten headphone!
Looking at Bursonās page they simply do not share most of these stats. So I am really wondering if my Burson Composer/Soloist 3XP is up to the task.
This calculator seems to suggest it is butā¦
Howās the sound stage and imaging on Tungsten? Most of the reviews skip this topic rather quickly, focusing on FR and punch/slam. Like, ok, itās smaller than Arya but bigger than HD6xx. But that range is huge.
As said in other places, soundstage and localization in stereo headphones isnāt like speakers at a distance, itās more like a spaciousness effect likely characterized by the relationship between the upper mids and treble. For that, the Tungsten is similar to some of the HiFiMAN headphones in that it has a dip around 1.5khz.
Thanks for explanation, @Resolve. As usually, youāre trying to be as objective as possible when talking about purely subjective stuff
Of HiFiMANs Iāve heard Sundara, HE6sev2, and Arya v3. Which one of these 3 is it closer to when it comes to staging and imaging? The HE6sev2 I guess?
Yes, HE6se v2. It has a similar upper mid to treble balance, while the Arya series has a bit more energy in a few places in the treble.
