Rosson Audio - RAD-0 - Official Thread

This looks amazing. Probably one of my favorite looking rad-0s or maybe it’s the amp to go with it. Awesome man!

Thanks. It is a looker for sure and pictures don’t do it justice.

What set-up did you get?

Your RAD-0’s should be one of the pictures next to the definition of “sexiness” in the dictionary. They match the amp so well too!

By special request, Rosson can extend the headband to accommodate larger heads. In addition, the customer can stretch the headband: https://www.rossonaudiodesign.com/blog/headband-stretching.

I recalled another data point for 589 grams:

@dbstechtalk beautiful set and matching amp to boot! The multitude of compliments lines up with blue being among the most popular colors based on my conversations with the Rosson team.

I have to ask: are the Empys no longer endgame?

I love both actually. Too early to call to be honest. In a lot of ways the RAD-0 is the analytical, technical version of the Empyrean. More to come in the weeks leading to the full written review.

Anyone use schiit amp/dac with their RAD0

The RAD doesn’t take much to get it to sing. I know of people that pair it with a Vali 2+. The RAD also rewards pairings with elevated electronics.

@bpcarb just posted a Mogwai SE for sale that Im sure would be amazing with the RAD-O’s.

Thanks i am looking to get something to drive RAD-0s but since splashing out on RAD-0 and exchange rate from AUD to USD is horrible, need to get something around 1K USD range.

If anyone has any recommendation please let me know, I am leaning towards schiit stack

Valhalla
Modius

You might want to consider a Chord Mojo. It sounded surprisingly good when I used that combo.

Not sure what excahnge rates do for you with Schiit products, but I’ve heard several times the value takes a beating overseas compared to here where it is a domestoc product.

I borrowed a RAD-0 before I bought my own and was very happy using it on every amp I own, including a Schiit Jot 2 and Burson Soloist 3XP.

Although I preferred the RAD-0 with my tube amps overall, the Burson and Jot 2 weren’t that far behind.

I know the Soloist is outside of your price range, but I wonder if one of the Burson all-in-ones like the Conductor or Playmate 2 would be better value for money for you than Schiit products, since you’re based in Australia and would avoid import duties and exchange rate-related hidden costs.

I’m listening to mine on an Asgard 2 right now. Sounds great

Valhalla is an OTL amp, which don’t generally pair well with planars partly due to impedance matching. That said, the output impedance of the Valhalla is relatively low (favorable for planar pairing purposes) for an OTL amp.

While there are exceptions (including @mfadio’s Mojo suggestion), Rosson Audio advises the following on their FAQ page:

Given you’re in Australia, Burson may be a better value than Schiit per @PaisleyUnderground.

For new Schiit, I’d probably recommend a Jot 2, Vali 2+, or Asgard 3 over a Valhalla.

Waiting for some Rebel amp owners to show up and chime in.
