Schiit Audio - Official Thread

I received my LYR 3 yesterday and in burn-in process atm. I can assure you it has more than enough power for Verite. Pass 12 o’clock on the dial is kinda painful for me. As for the tube, the JJ 6SN7 standard is pretty good even before fully burned-in. Curiosity to try well known tubes is dangerous though, as many have said here. I think it’s safe to say that if you have enough patience, you can get an amazing deal on NOS tube online while in a mean time, have a good time with the stock tube.

Some guy in the forum:
“Insert tube name here” has the widest sound stage, amazing details, bass slam like you never heard before

Me: open chrome, go to Ebay, :man_facepalming:

lol

Hahaha

K, just don’t buy any GE tubes. They are universally terrible.

I’m too busy still listening through that Pink Floyd song @Resolve referenced in his Pendant review, but once it ends, I’ll probably do the same as you :stuck_out_tongue:

Except it hurts more in AUD.

I didn’t know anything about GE tubes so that’s a very useful info. Thanks!
So far, if everything goes well at the end, the damage is minimal I think?
Psvane CV181-T Mk2 (from Grand Fidelity Canada) and Sylvania Bad Boy (Ebay, $50 and verified by Wesley through a bad set of pictures). I doubt I’ll be going for Brimar CV1988. This thing cost quite a bit more than I’m willing to spend on a single tube. Or at least that’s how I feel right now.

I like my Grant Fidelity Psvane CV181-TII a lot. I have all of their 6SN7 types Grant Fidelity offers and all are to my liking. No experience with Brimar, Bad Boy or GE in a 6SN7 type. With all the different amps and tube types I own I’ve never acquired a GE even by accident which surprises me so I have no opinion. But its funny, I know a very knowledgeable tube-o-phile who can pick out the sound of different tubes blindfolded who also can’t stand the sound of any GE’s either.

Well. Grabbed a used Jotenhiem. Should arrive next week. $250 USD delivered (equiv.).

Hopefully enjoy it more with the Verite Open than this SMSL SP200.

Thanks @BuffaloWing you are awesome Ben!

Here are the playlists I use but feel free to use whatever you are most familiar with!!

  1. Qobuz Playlist
  2. Amazon MusicHD Playlist
  3. Spotify Playlist

EDIT: I also have a topping DAC on the way so that could be fairly comparable to my stack! I believe both have AKM chips.

Good Morning from North Carolina!

After three solid days of listening with the BH Mainline and HD600’s I switched over to my B-Stock $79 Schiit Magni 3, not the 3+…and the Bifrost 2.

Results I am absolutely floored at how good this amp works with the B2 and HD600’s…OMG nice piano with Keiko Matsui…great CD…called “Dreamwalk”…

The clarity is superb, allowing for all those macro-details to shine through the veil!, Ha! what veil?

The depth of the soundstage is superb as well…I would say this pairing for the HD 600’s is the best I have heard, even better than the BH Crack and Vahalla 2…thats saying alot!

The lesson here is that there always be great new stuff, but this doesnt make the great old stuff any worse…

Happy here this am!

Jason Stoddard at Shiit Audio recently posted this on Head-Fi. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sch...bable-start-up.701900/page-3798#post-15486474

In the post he discusses what he calls “blind listening”, Shiit’s adoption of the procedure and the very surprising results they have had - for example, they preferred their Delta Sigma DACs over their Multibit versions, but most noticeably, according to Jason, “the differences between electronics are very very small,” such that Jason could not differentiate between the Magni 3+, Magni Heresy, and Vali 2, which has 1000x more distortion than the other 2 amps! Other than the Vali 2 monkey wrench, it confirmed @Torq’s findings in his review of the Magni 3+ and Magni Heresy.

It is worth reading as it might change your approach to audio reviews and the manner in which you evaluate and buy gear. It also perhaps signals a new direction for product development at Shiit.

I was thinking of posting this in the “Ovjectivist vs Subjectivist” thread as Jason does discuss this diametric but thought it best to avoid the polemics that thread engenders. I also do not situate myself in one camp or the other. Like others and as Jason mentions, I very much liked Tyll Herstens’ approach to reviewing and evaluating gear.

That’s interesting, as they’re hailed for their Multibit dacs. Especially their recent Bifrost 2.

You should read the whole post. They only compared the Modi and Gungnir DS/Multibit versions. And they did find that they preferred the Bitfrost 2 over the original.

Ahhh, I only read your post and what you quoted.

I found this very interesting from Jasons posting:

"And heck, if it’s true, it pretty much completely blows up the “burn-in” thing. If this is true, there is likely no burn-in except brain burn-in; your brain simply adapted over much listening time to the small differences in your current components, so when you swap one out, the difference seems much bigger at first."

I have 12 headphone amps in house at present and I rotate thru them every 4-5 days…the $99 ones to the $2K ones…tubes and SS. Schiit and non Schiit.

Each time I go from one amp to another my brain tells me “hey this amp is really good!”. Then after the 4-5 days, I change and a new amp is used, and I again hear my brain telling me the same thing. “hey this amp is really good!”…

So after a few days its seems the new amp in the circuit becomes “friendly” and the initial “hey this amp sounds really good” becomes “I’m bored… time for something different!”

At least with 12 amps I dont ever get bored!!

Today it was a switch from a TOTL tube amp, parafeed to a B Stock Magni 3 (not the 3+) and my brain told me “hey this amp is really good”!!!

Maybe Jasons addage “this may be all the amp you will ever need” is “true!!”…
(he was referring to the $99 Magni 3+ !!).

I should have added that the most important take-away Jason mentions is that because the audible differences between electronics are very tiny, one should prioritize transducers before anything else and should purchase those before anything else.

That’s a great way to keep things ‘fresh’, and probably allows you to be more objective.

Either way, you’re enjoying your music and that’s what matters most.

Jason uses a blind listening test or session where the listener does not see the equipment and actually have a bias towards any one piece of gear.

I level set and pop in and out headphones quickly to see if I can hear any real world differences, his blind sight listening would be a humbling experience for a lot of us I am sure!

The part about the equipment differences being very slight I can totally believe because this has been my real world experience…Comparing a $1K amp with a $400 amp and except for the specs and or features etc they sound pretty much alike…

But we all like stuff and new stuff and comparing stuff…its a fun part of the hobby for me and lots of us.

Its amazing that Jason would even bring this up, after all he is in the audio business to sell stuff, so to read this kind of “stuff” coming from him is a refreshing set of knowledge and experience…there maybe more truth in his stating the Magni 3+ or Magni Hersey may be all the amp you ever need!! All for $99!

But those VU meters on the Phonitors really look “cool”!!

Enjoy the music!
