Cool, just making sure everyone’s on the same page.

I personally agree with you!

I could not agree with you more!

Another good amp from Schiit that has tons of power…will drive almost anything well.

Amazing amp…

The Asgard 3 is my recommendation to most people with the budget for it, and even amps higher priced. Its just a pleasure to listen to, doesnt cost a fortune (relatively), and looks and build are fantastic and nothing comes close at that price. (ok besides magnius)

Will strongly consider buying an Asgard 3 whenever returning to work becomes a more permanent thing again and leaving it there.

I’m getting so itchy on this. Ordered right before the holiday and hoping it ships soonish.

This is encouraging for the HE6se. Picked this up for the specific purpose of desktop listening to those.

I just tried listening to 1 song – Michael Jackson’s Wanna be Starting Something and A-B’d RCA and XLR between Bifrost 2 to Jot 2.

First off, the XLR gain is significantly higher than the RCA, so quickly channel matching wasn’t easy.

I don’t think they are night and day differences in sound in my test. I think the XLR is more defined and perhaps slightly brighter and the RCA is a little less dynamic and softer, but not like an Asgard 3.

Ok that’s all I have for now.

Here’s part 2 of the story I outlined above, in this post.

I emailed Schiit, telling them what I was hearing and asking them if that was what they expected. I told them that I was not asking them for anything, especially since I’d found a workaround to cure the brightness. To their credit, they told me they thought something was wrong with my Jot 2 and replaced it, free of charge.

The new Jot 2 arrived today and it sounds completely different from what I had before. I tried it after letting it run with pink noise for a couple hours to warm up, and there is zero brightness. I’ve tried all the inputs and outputs and even accidentally left it on high gain when I switched from my Verite to my Stellia and I didn’t even notice. :grinning:

More to come, once I’ve spent a bit more time with it, but after a brief listening session, I’m very happy with the new amp, and with Schiit’s exemplary customer service.

Good to hear that they offered to replace it and that you’re happy with the new unit! The fact that it sounds different is interesting/worrisome.

Jason posted in his recent blog on headfi that they had some issues pop up around Christmas-NYE timeframe and maybe the Jot 2 was one of them. He didnt go into any specifics from memory.

I’m glad it’s only sonic issues and not exploding L30 type issues.

Oh man, glad I/we didn’t have to deal with that! A little treble energy never hurt no one LOL.

Damnit! I was just finishing up a 14,000 word essay on all the things you did wrong with the first amp.

Now I have to try and spin it to be the “unknown third man” that broke into your house and rewired your stuff.

But seriously, glad you contacted Schiit and got a unit that’s up to spec.

Just save it for my next review. A simple search/replace of his name for mine should do the trick. Haha

That’s good they solved the issue and recognized the problem and that the 2nd amp is to spec. All the reviews were not suggesting brightness so at least you’re not crazy!

I know there was some conversation about this in the beginning of this thread, but after you guys have had the V2 for a while, could you compare it to the V1 if you have or had it? I have a V1 and am wondering if it’s worth buying the V2

The V1 has more treble. V2 is more mellow in that regard.

V2 has wider staging, and sounds more otl tube-ish.

Despite that, after really digging into them both, V2 seems faster with better dynamics and layers volume differences better.

Both seem to emphasize impact, but V2 sounds better doing it as it doesn’t do it in a “shouty” manner.

Due to the above, V2 seems to be more organic. V1 more solid state like.

V2 really is quite a charmer. I’d pair V2 with brighter headphones, but not V1.

The reviews I have read keep pointing to the tubish nature of the J2.

Since the QC hiccup has been sorted this appears to be a proper little gem. I will likely say this numerous more times and have said it before: tempting to buy but will resist.

Sounds like this would pair decently with a BF2 - would make a nice bedside stack (resist, resist…)

Thank you @ProfFalkin I appreciate your input. I’m planning on getting some new Grados at some point soon, so the upgrade to V2 would probably be worth it.
